Baltimore with a group of friends

Ask this member a question. FamilyGroup I suggested Baltimore cause I recently met some wonderful people from Baltimore who helped me make the plans.

We have a group of 8 couples who take a yearly trip together (driving distance from New Jersey). Each year a different couple plan the trip and this time it was our turn.

This hotel is about 10 minutes from the Inner Harbor and provides van service so you do not have to park your car (which is difficult and expensive). They offer a full hot and cold breakfast and free parking. We paid $107 for our rooms.
This is a fantastic museum - both the building and the art collection. We all met there Friday in time for a delicious lunch at Gertrudes Restaurant in the museum. (We recommend the Imperial Crab over Portobello Mushroom) The permanent collection we loved was The Cone Sister's collection. We also enjoyed the Matisse Jazz series.
Dinner that night was a Backfin. We highly recomment the Crabcakes or any of the freshly prepared fish dishes
4. Heritage Walk
Saturday morning we got on our walking shoes and met our guide at the Baltimore Visitors Center. He led us on a walk around the area for a delightful, informative two hours. We then walked to Little Italy for luncn. Our guide told us that any of the 37 authentic Italian restaurants would be good and he was right.
A very unusual museum to visit. The "Race, Class, Gender do not define one's Character" exhibit was very interesting. Be sure to visit all the buildings.
This is an outstanding Spanish restaurant with many, many rooms. If you are a small group you can get a private room. Be sure to have the Sangria but you'll need a "designated driver". Also be sure to leave room for their fabulous desserts.
On Sunday we had a docent lead us on a tour of two very old synagogues and tell us the history of the Jewish community of Baltimore. If this interests you, it should not be missed. We followed it with a great lunch at Attmans New York Style Deli which is across the street.
8. Overview of visiting Baltimore
Everything about this weekend was very reasonable with the exception of our splurge for Saturday night dinner at Tio Pepe. The museums and tours were very inexpensive as were all the meals with the one exception. There is so much to do in Baltimore on a budget that we did not have time to do such as the Water Taxi - one price for hop on/hop off all day long, the Waters Museum, Camden Yards, the Babe Ruth House and the Star Spangled Banner House Baltimore is a wonderful city to visit "on a shoe string". PS. They just voted to make all their city museums free starting in October.
