  • 1. Bad Ishl, Summer home of the Kaisers

This small town on the confluence of two rivers was the summer home of Kaiser Franz Jozeph of Austria as well as composer Franz Lehar. There are many reasonable places to stay with beautiful views as well as access to the many spas in this city known for such things. Within 25 KM are many sites worth visiting.

  • 2. Anif, Near Salzburg Austria

If you saw the Sound of Music, at the beginning you saw a castle in a lake. That was in Anif, a small villiage just outside of Salzburg. this place is where one shuld stay when visiting Salzburg. There are dozens of gasthauses owned by indivisuals offering bed and breakfasts at reasonable prices. You can walk to the local bus station which takes you into downtown Salzburg thereby saving the expensive parking fees there. Buy a 24 or 72 hour tourist card which gets you into nearly all the site including the Mozart birthplace. We have stayed at a family owned place in Anif a half dozen times called Gallnhof which has beautiufl clean rooms overlookiing the highest mountain in Austria from yourbalcony. Rates are very reasonable and inclue great breakfasts. You can get nearly anywhere within the Salzkammergut (lake district) of Austria within 30 minutes by car from this area. It is a romantic and beautiul area to visit.

  • 3. Hallstadt,Austria

This is the city you see pictured on nearly every brochure published by the Austrian tourist buereau. It is a gorgeous very small villiage located on a beautiful lake which had an ancient man named after it. The bones are still there. The city is so small that few cars are allowed in and even those must be people living or stayin in one of the inns there. If you are looking for romance, music and friendly people, this is the place to find it.
