So much to see and usually not enough time. Don't go home without stopping by these classic attractions.

The best monument in the city. The entire building, steps and the seated president are enormous. Mr. Lincoln looks so dignified as he watches over the city. It's breathtaking.
Located at the east end of the Mall the domed building and grounds are quite attractive. Head for the Rotunda to admire the fresco "Apotheosis of Washington" then cue up for a tour of this historic building.
Everyone comes to see the pandas but there are lots of other animals here as well. Visit the primates, reptiles and animals from various regions of the globe. Children will have a blast at the Kids' Farm.
This eclectic neighborhood is chock full of shopping and restaurants. Bars really come to life in the evening. You'll find a mix of locals, tourists and college students. There's plenty to see and do. Take a walking tour of local historic homes and gardens.
Pretend you're a double agent at this museum that's fun for folks of all ages. Admire the enormous collection of espionage artifacts including buttonhole cameras and a slew of disguises. Interactive displays and computer and special effects make spying so much fun.
This monument to fallen heroes is both solemn and surreal. The enormity of the sculpture and vast number of names etched in stone really is an eye opener. So many lost their lives and this memorial is a fitting tribute.
If you don't reserve tickets in advance you'll have to wait in line if you want to ride to the observation deck but the views are worth it.
Entrance to the Smithsonian museums is free so you really can't miss with this one. Comprised of over 15 museums and buildings you must visit the Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum and American History Museum...oh heck, just visit them all, they're great!
You won't run into the President but you can tour parts of the building including the state dining room, the blue room and red room. Tour details have changed. You can't just walk up to the visitor center and join a tour. You need to make a request in advance.
Over 115 million books are in the collection here and that number grows daily. The library is composed of three, connected buildings. You can view the Gutenberg Bible and a draft of the Declaration of Independence. You shouldn't miss the stained-glass ceiling in the Great Hall.
