Bilboa Weekend

3.5 of 5 stars based on 5 votes

5 things to do in Bilboa on a Budget!

  • Category: Recent trip
  • Traveler type: Culture, Sightseeing, Shopping, Never been before
  • Appeals to: Couples/romantics, Singles, Seniors, Students, Budget travellers , Tourists
  • Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall
  • 1. Travel on the Metro

You can buy really cheap metro tickets and travel across the city, hopping on and off at any interesting places you see, either side of the river.

  • 2. Visit St Sebastian

This is a beautiful seaside resort, situated on the northern Spanish coast. We travelled by coach from Bilboa coach station for only about £10 return, and had an amazing day out.

  • 3. Shopping!

There are loads of great high street shops that would see in the UK, but as many are Spanish in origin, sell the same items at a much cheaper rate. Look out for Zara (there are about 8 in Bilboa including a Zara home store!), Mango and the Mango Clearance Shop, which is really cheap. Clothes were around a third of the price that you would pay in the UK.

  • 4. Chill Out in the City Centre

There's a huge roundabout right in the city centre, where all of the main shopping and business streets meet - a bit like a plaza. It doesn't sound very relaxing, but the area has been planted with beautfiul flowers and there's an area for public performances etc, and plenty of seating and grass so you can take a picnic and chill out in the sun!

  • 5. Drink Sangria in the Old Town

Bilboa has a beautfiul old town, across the river from the modern business and shopping area. It has lots of small shops and boutiques, along with a stunning medeval church. Visit the street cafe under the church and enjoy a jug or two of sangria during siesta time!
