Old Favorite Places & Hoping to Find New Ones
Opened in 1985, alot has changed since I moved away in 1992. They did away with their super speed human torpedo vertical drop slides, a deep end complete with chain-rope swing with stopper to drop you in the water, and other not so fun things...which was probably a good thing- replacing them with many family friendly tubing "adventure" options. They've also gone smoke-free, instead of having hard to enforce smoking areas. Regular price tickets for adults are pricey at $25 for all day, but their webpage has reduced price ones and even after 3pm discounted entry (I've seen it for $11.50). They have an impressive wave pool- with an optional $5 rental tube available, and it's worth it. Get 3/4 of the way out into the pool and wait for the waves to turn on! So Fun! Some other areas are in need of updating (like a baby pool area, the lazy river, and a couple old mat-style water slides). You can eat a picnic lunch in the parking lot, then re-enter- or wait in the long lines for slightly overpriced hot dogs and burgers. THIS IS A FUN PLACE TO GO TO! Get some discounted tickets, put on some sunscreen, and have fun.
I've been going since I was a kid. I just have to go each time I'm in town. It's a jaunt down memory lane everytime I see the Elephants, Giraffes, old bird "cage" that used to house them, the turtle pond with flamingos and that super slow moving kiddy train. Though far from being upscale and on the top zoo list of America, it's a quiet place to stop and walk for a while.
The old "Excelsior" hotel, which was extravegant when it opened in downtown Little Rock had renovations done and ownership changed. Complete with a DuckMaster who tends the resident ducks, a red carpet parade happens daily for all to see- hotel guest or not. 501-906-4000 for duck (or hotel) info.
Submarine tours- N. Little Rock Riverfront Park. Tour hours vary. When this was written, their summer tour hours were Th-Sat 1000-1800, Sun 1300-1800. The Razorback is parked at the North Little Rock Riverfront Park and can be walked up to even when tours aren't going on. An impressive hunk of metal with a long history.
My review is at link above.
35 minute or 15 minute roundtrip trolley system.
In Hot Springs-I used to go when I was little with my Grandfather and siblings. We always had a great time, but the walking & noise always wore my grandmother out quickly. It's a fun, hands-on science oriented learning museum. I recommend it, even for the youngest of kids.
Located in Hot Springs, I'm excited to go. Interested in their horseback riding (which seems very reasonable at $20 an hour), they also boast a large selection of nice sounding lodging cabins, have steak dinners, & can arrange a massage for your stay also.
Turtles & Fish & Lizards... oh my. I haven't been there yet, but look forward to going.
