Rent a car and blaze your own Irish trails!
A very lively, cultural neighborhood with cozy pubs and underground clubs--quite a range! Loved it here!
Liked this hotel a lot, and it was the only hotel I've ever been in that had 3 single beds in one room. Very convenient for group travelers.
Goof off and enjoy it! We were able to dress up like knights and vikings, make rubbings, and play in a fake medieval market. A great place to take kids, but frankly, we college students probably enjoyed it more!
Very luxurious, but worth every penny! You MUST try their creme brulee. It is to die for. Cute pub within, and you must wear a bathing cap in the indoor pool. VERY funny for pictures!
Again, this hotel may be expensive, but when else will you stay in a real live abbey?! This one has a car from Agatha Christie's Orient Express that includes Hercule Poirot's personal car. It is a restaurant and has beautiful desserts. The man who owned the estate was building the abbey for his invalid wife, and she died the day it was compeleted and never got to see it. Very eerie. Especially if you do like we did and sneak around the grounds with flashlights in the middle of the night. Fab!
Huge. Gorgeous. Incredible pool. Creepy. Free slippers. Free decanter of Mead. 'Nuff said.
Perhaps our favorite thing that we did! You can spend several hours here.
This castle is a ruin and so much fun to explore! The grounds are exciting too, with a witches den and fairy glade! Makes for great pictures. I've always had the gift of gab, but decided to kiss the stone anyway. It is way up on the parapets of the castle and you have to lie down on your back and hang over the edge while a little local guy holds you round the waist. There are bars so you can't fall. Kind of gross, I guess, but I wanted to say I had done it.
Prehistoric bear bones, weird scenery. Chilly--take a coat!
This was so much fun! Be careful or you might leave married! They simulate a viking wedding. Go into Viking huts where fake vikings think they are real and talk like it and ask you why you are wearing trousers and why you bathe.
I didn't believe in ghosts until I got my pictures back from Kilkenny. There was a full apparition. I can't sleep in the same room with my scrapbook.
So beautiful! You will stop for pictures often!
We happened to drive by this and were awestruck with the beauty of it and stopped to take several pictures. I think they do events and stuff, but we were in Ireland during the Hoof & Mouth epidemic, so a lot of stuff was closed.
Once again, we were awestruck with God's creation! Reminds me of my favorite quote by Ralph Waldo Emmerson: "All I have seen teaches me to trust in the Creator whom I have not seen."
