1. Lilac Festival, Highland Park
During peak lilac season, obviously (mid-May). Probably the single biggest annual event in Rochester.
Beautiful lake country within an hour's drive of Rochester, to the southeast. Famous for its numerous wineries.
Okay, not as impressive as nearby Niagara Falls, but it is a waterfall ... of a reasonably big river ... due to the same geographic feature that created Niagara Falls. Is nice because it's not as touristy as Niagara Falls. Rochester was founded where it was because of the waterpower available from the falls.
4. Attend an Eastman School of Music concert
The Eastman School of Music is internationally renowned; they consequently have an extensive concert series.
5. Rochester Jazz Festival
Annual international jazz festival, in early June.
6. Attend an Amerks game
The Rochester Americans are Rochester's AHL hockey team. They play at Blue Cross Arena.
Science edutainment for the children.
More museums for the kids.
9. Lake Ontario
Boating and beach activities, just a few miles north of downtown Rochester. Because of Rochester's climate, this is really only good in the summer.
A small amusement park right off the Lake Ontario beach. Personally I don't go for the small amusement parks, but they have a certain panache that appeals to some.
