1. Nisbet Plantation Beach Club
Ave price:
$745
I very much enjoy this hotel with its very beautiful grounds, which is also right next to the beach. It is very rich in Nevis history, being the plantation where Horatio Nelson met his wife Fanny Nisbet. The plantation Great House is original, and it is a lovely place for dinner and afternoon tea. The hotel is moderately expensive but the service is world-class; the staff are really outstanding. |

2. Unella's Restaraunt, for lunch
| In the center of the capital, Charlestown, overlooking the water, up on the second floor where the sea breeze blows right through, Unella's is a lovely place to eat lunch. The menu is varied enough to suit anyone. I very much enjoy the hearty veggie burger plate. |

3. Museum of Nevis History, the Alexander Hamilton House
| This attractive stone house is right by the waterfront, situated in a peacful courtyard shaded by a large Flame tree. It is the house where Alexander Hamilton was born and lived to the age of 8. It is now a very good museum, cool even on hot days, with a nice gift shop area selling books and locally made items. Join the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society while you are there, you will enjoy getting their newsletter thoughout the year. |

4. Lovers Beach, north coast of Nevis
| For romantics, or people seeking restful solitude, Lover's Beach is off the beaten track. It may sometimes may require a rugged vehicle to transverse the rough dirt track that cuts through woodland, but this beach is very quiet and the views are very lovely indeed. |

5. Cool down with lunch, or afternoon tea, up at Golden Rock Hotel
| Golden Rock Plantation Inn is up at 1,000 feet, so it is never too hot, even at midday. It is surrounded by nature, and has a beautful garden full of flowers. If you go up there for afternoon tea, you may quite likely see the local troop of vervet monkeys that live in the rain forest and who usually pass nearby in the mornings and afternoons. Golden Rock is also a great place from which to start several different types of walks and hikes. |

6. Take a Nevis island tour with a local taxi driver
| Your hotel can call you a taxi, or you can find one at the taxi stand in the center of Charlestown. All the cab drivers offer an island tour, and most of them are very knowlegable about their lovely island. They will take you all around the island, stopping at all the main attractions and hotels and enabling you to get a very good sense of the whole place. Take your time and enjoy this tour, and don't be shy about asking questions about all the interesting things you will see. |

7. Courthouse and Library, Charlestown
| This handsome stone building dominates the main square in Charlestown. Walk up the stairs to look at the spacious library with its magnificent timbered ceiling; to my mind it is one of the most charming interior spaces on the island. |
