Beautiful Hotel - all the common areas are well kept - for what they charge for rooms I was disappointed in the condition of ours - many activities, pool, hot tub, casino, game room, spa, valet car service - reminded me of an adirondack lodge in upstate NY. Concierge was VERY helpful in figuring out what to do and booking activities for you.
I had read that this was the BEST sushi restaurant on the Lake so we had to try it out, we were not disappointed - however, they do not open until 5:00pm - no lunch available here - and get there right at 5:00pm or you might have to wait. Casual dining - shorts and T-shirts are fine.
You absolutely HAVE TO go on their ATV Adventure ride - we did the 3 hour tour and it was the highlight of the trip - great guide, wonderful scenery, rocky roads, bumpy ride, the best! The only thing we were disappointed with was that we did not book ahead for the six hour adventure! Boots, helmets and gloves are provided. This is a VERY DUSTY trip - don't bother with the shower before you get there. There are no vertical hills, trail riding at it's best.
Took the gondola ride to the top of the mountain ($24 pp) and it is by far the BEST view of Lake Tahoe - if you are afraid of heights this ride might not be for you - very majestic! We stopped half way up to take pictures of the Lake - then continued on to the top. We decided to do some hiking at the top - I only made it 1/2 way as I was having difficulty breathing due to the altitude - really too bad becuase I would have like to have finished the hike. The hiking trails are wide (probably ski slopes in the winter) and VERY DUSTY - wear lots of sunscreen in the summer as there is very little shade along the way. Most of the trails are downhilll on the way out and uphill on the way back.
I am not a huge fan of Mexican food but when my co-workers suggested this place I decided to tag along. It's a Mexican Restaurant, with Russian Waitresses and piped in rock music on the stereo system. The food was good, but communication with the waitresses was difficult, they screwed up two drink orders and never came back after the food was served (i.e. to refill water glasses). Food was about a 7 and service about a 2.
This is the BEST breakfast joint on the North side of the Lake - very small and always crowded, service and food excellent - many Mexican influences on this menu - breakfast burrito was HUGE and delicious - don't eat at the hotel, take the short drive to this restaurant you won't be disappointed.
7. Sail Woodwind - Catamaran Cruises
We took the Sunset Catamaran Cruise on Lake Tahoe with this company. The Sunday night cruise had a Jazz Band on Board which made it even more fun. The crew was fun, upbeat and very attentive. The price was $40 pp but there was a $2 off coupon on their site - this included all the wine, domestic beer and soda you could drink. The sunset was out of this world and it is amazing how many stars you can see at night here in the mountains (even the milky way!). Wear pants and bring along a jacket because once the sun goes down (we were there in late August) it gets cold fast. This was worth every penny - great cruise.
