The city of Amsterdam is a haven for traveler's with an open mind. The philosophy with the locals seems to be live and let live.

The single best thing about visiting this city is the public transportation. Once you land at Schipol Airport, you take a taxi to your hotel and for the rest of your trip, if you don't feel like walking (which is the eaiest way to get around) you can rent a bicycle , or take an alternative taxi ( bike or horse driven taxi). If you prefer more conventional transport, the trams and busses run every fifteen minutes and because they have priority on the road- they're always on time.

The museums are some of the best in the world. Visit the Floating Flower Market and deck your hotel room out in exotic blooms.

Everywhere you look there is food in Amsterdam. Everything from frities (fries) to elegant sit down resturants and exotic cuisine from all over the world.

Amsterdam is a wonderful place to visit where the you can museum hop, window shop in the Redlight District, eat your way through food from around the world, wander around Dam square watching the street artists plying their wares or take a cruise up and down the canals.

This hotel is absolute jewel when in Amsterdam. The rooms tend to be much smaller than you might be used to in the states but the charm more than makes up for it. THe hotel itself is a coolection of 17 and 18th century buildings that were converted into the Pulitzer. Room service is always willing to whip you up a snack - even after they close the grill. The best rooms are at the front of the hotel because they overlook one of the cities many canals. A bonus for frequent travelers is the fact that the hotel is a member of the Sheraton Starwoods frequent traveler program.
The museum is great way to spend the afternoon. You are treated to the largest collection of Van Gogh's work. Your best bet is to pre-purchase your tickets to avoid the long lines at the door.
Dam Square is a great day out. There are performance artists in the street and painters congregate to sell their work to the tourists. You can hitch a ride in a horse and buggy or take one of the cities bike taxi's. There is also lots of shopping and resonably priced food in this area.
The Red Light District is not appropriate for children. However, its quite a sight after dark. Taking pictures of the window girls is prohibited. The best time to see the Red Light District in all its glory is late evening. Where comfortable shoes and expect it to be very crowded.
