When in Winnipeg...

Winnipeg has a bad rap as being a boring uneventful place, but there are great hotels and restaurants; and the best part is, it's really inexpensive!

This is my favorite hotel in the city. This brand new boutique hotel is located at the Forks where the red river and assinaboine river meet. The Forks is a destination in and of itself, so having the hotel there is perfect! The restaurant in the hotel is fantastic with reasonable prices. I recommend the peppered strawberries for desert if you want to try something fresh and unique. The spa offers a wide range of services to choose from. The beds are very comfortable and have fluffy down duvets. The glass bathrooms are very cool. This is a great place to go for a romantic weekend, a business trip or a wedding reception. |

2. Wasabi Sushi Restaurant
|
|
| This is hands down one of the best Sushi places I have ever been and that includes Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. For $60 per person, you can order the special menu where you try dish after dish specially selected by the chef. You may have difficulty finishing it! It's located in a remodelled home on a quiet street off Broadway, across the street from Edward Carriere, a fantastic hair salon. The presentation of the food is usually quite fantastic. Some of the tables on the top level allow you to sit on the floor japanese style. This is a great place to go with friends or as a couple. |

3. Edward Carriere (Hair Salon)
|
|
| This Salon is in an old renovated house on Spence Street (off Broadway). Any of the talented staff will do an excellent job of cuts, color, highlights, updo's, etc. The haircuts start at $25 and updo's are around $50. The prices are great and you will love the results. The staff are constantly in training and competitions. I had my hair and makeup done here for my wedding and LOVED the results. Whether you live in Winnipeg or are just in town for a few days, I highly recommend getting your hair done here. (Then pop across the street to Wasabi for dinner!) They also do esthetics and sell cosmetics and perfume among other things. |

| This is one of the best places to go on a warm summer evening for dinner, gelati or a glass of wine. It is Winnipeg's "Little Italy" section with numerous Italian restaurants and gelati parlours. Nucci's has the best Gelati. There are often long line ups, but well worth it. This is where you want to go if you want a nice outdoor cafe with good food and a fun environment. |

| This is a beautiful huge park located a 5 min drive from the Corydon area. There is a large amount of greenspace to play and lie in the sun. There are biking and rollerblading paths. It's also a great spot for jogging. If you like looking at stately old Mansions, I recommend taking a jog down Wellington Crescent (just outside the park). This is a perfect spot for a romantic picnic. The zoo is also in the park but you wouldn't know it because it is so huge. So there are no animal smells/noises until you get to the zoo. The Tavern at the Park is here as well, which is fantastic food in a gorgeous setting. A lot of weddings happen here and it's a great spot for brunch. |

| Located about 1 hour's drive from downtown Winnipeg, Grand Beach has been ranked one of the best white sand beaches in the world. 3 Km long, the beach is made up of the East Beach and the West Beach. The West Beach is always busier and usually filled with young people and the East beach is usually a little quieter and often more family oriented. There are restaurants available and change rooms and washrooms. The water is swimable and stays shallow quite a ways in. This is a must see if the weather is hot. |
