I live in DC and love to travel. I'm constantly going places for a quick weekend getaway. Here's a list of some of the places I've gone. All of these are accessible by car.
1. New York City
We went on greyhound for only $36 round trip. There are so many people going DC to NY that this bus goes straight through without stopping, and it only takes about 4 hours. So NY IS affordable!
Philadelphia is about 2.5 hours from DC. We went for one day in July, which is an exhausting way to do it. Go for the 4th of July weekend when they have the all you can eat ice cream festival - yum! Lots to do, worth the trip.
Cute mountain town with a little more to offer than most. Good for a weekend but not longer. Only 90 minutes from DC.
Cute little town only about 45 minutes away. We went on a day trip, but hope to go back for a whole weekend. Has lots of B&Bs.

Ave price: $304
This is a four hour drive. We went to celebrate our anniversary over President's Day weekend. The hotel rooms are great, very romantic. There are a lot of activities outdoors. The indoor activities are cheesy and the food is horrible. Go planning to spend a lot of time in your whirlpool tub and you will enjoy it.
Beach town about 4 hours away. We went for a short weekend, and that was probably long enough.
A five hour drive from DC. Good for a long weekend. Very green.
8. Williamsburg
A 2.5 hour drive from DC. There's not much to do and the park is way overpriced.
