there are a few zillion restaurants, theatres, movie theaters, and other things to do in Downtown - even if you don't like the night club scene.

| Yum! The seafood here is very good. I especially like their New England Clam Chowder. Sit in their main dining room, patio, or Oyster Bar... all very different, all fun and mostly good people watching. |

2. California Repertory Company at the Edison Theatre
| Let alone the architechture of this building is awesome, it's also an award-winning theatre. They won the LA drama critic's award last year for best season of a small - medium size theatre in LA.... and belive it or not, the program is managed, designed, and acted by masters students from Cal State, Long Beach. The work they do is mostly new or unfamiliar works - ranging from Shakespeare to Lorca to Bukowski. The season Runs from September through May. |

Sports bar meets restaurant....WARNING - TURNS INTO NIGHT CLUB! but, if you're looking for a place to watch "the game" it's on at smooths. The food is generally ok, but on more than one occasion I've had an order messed up. |

Ok - I haven't been yet... but i'm going to the opening game of the season this week, so I'll let you know. But it is Hockey... and it's not NHL... so, it should be fun no matter. |

5. Taco Beach

| Mexican hole in the wall on Pine... good tacos. sometimes live music. Much more along the lines of "dive Bar" rather than "night club" |

| This Quirky bunch has been doing quirky shows in Long Beach for a long, long time. they have a cult-like following. The Found recently moved from their space on 7th to a space at the corner of 6th and Long Beach Blvd... they gave their old space to the Garage theatre, so they could leave the garage. |

A little farther away from the convention center, but worth the ride on the Passport bus. This unusual theatre does some really amazing works. they've also hosted art shows and Single Night performances by local artistts. They are really into promoting local community, art, and artists. And... their tickets are really inexpensive. |

| Sushi restaurant with Teppen Yaki (they cook it for you, in front of you) and Karaoke on their lower level. They also have a happy-hour half price sushi special. It's NOT the best sushi in town.... |

10. International City Theatre
| the most "mainstream" of all the theatres in the downtwon area. they use the space at the convention center. I have never seen one of their shows... but I heard it's good stuff. |

| There is an Opera in Long Beach... in fact, I think it's one of the oldest Opera Companies in Southern California. Like many of the Theatres in Long Beach, they are known to do some pretty unique stuff too. |

12. Long Beach Symphony Orchestra
| Another great cultural activity - also in Downtown Long beach. They have holiday shows and then a regular season throughout the year. |
13. 2nd Saturday Art Walk
| The East Village Arts District (just east of downtown) - galleries, restaurants, shops are open late. booths are set up by artists and vendors along Linden between 1st and Broadway. |

| Movie theatre on Pine street between Broadway and 3rd street. Student discount tickets available. sticky floors and salty, buttery popcorn seats... who could ask for more out of a movie theatre |

| The Ice-cream treat that isn't quite ice cream and is always at fairs and theme parks has an actual store-front in downtwon Long Beach. Eating this stuff makes me feel like I'm 10 years old. The fact that you can mix and match your flavors makes it even more fun. It's hidden behind the box office for the AMC on Pine. |

16. Bertrand Smith's Acres of Books
| One of the biggest and best used book stores I've ever seen. Their website says it's the largest in California... the most amazing part of it - they don't have their inventory computerized. They also have a side "reading room" which is sometimes used for events. Plan on spending a chunck of time there 'cause you'll never get through it all. And keep an eye out for your favorite authors. |
