1. Banana Bungalow Hollywood @ The Orbit Hotel and Hostel

Located in West Hollywood. This hostel is fairly basic but has some good live music and other acts on there in the evening. The area is nice in the day but didn't feel all that safe at night. Easy enough to get the local bus to various parts of LA from here. Is closer to the Hollywood Greyhound than the down town LA Greyhound station. |

2. Grand Canyon International Hostel

| Nice, clean cozy hostel located in the centre of town. Rooms are fairly small and there is not much room for storage if it is full. Trips booked in the Hostel to the Grand Canyon are some of the cheapest around. Only problem with this hostel is that it is right by a train track and all trains that pass through sound their horn really loud even through the night. Makesure you get a ride in the hostels pink Cadillac! |

Brilliant hotel at a brilliant price if you stay on a week day. Located on the strip and only about a 10 minute walk up to the bigger hotels such as the Venetian. The rooms are huge and are an absolute luxury after staying in hostels all the time. Makesure you try a vegas buffett whilst staying there. |

| Small family run hostel with one girls dorm and one boys dorm (4 beds in each dorm). The owner is very imformative about the area and can provide you with lots of information on Yosemite National Park. |

5. Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort

|
|
One of the nicest hostels I have stayed at. Booked a twin room and they gave us a spacious family room. The meals here are really good and lots of locals come here to eat on the weekend so makesure you turn up early to get a seat. On Saturday nights they have a band playing and the place fills up with both tourists and locals for a night of partying. The bus into Yosemite National Park goes from the end of the driveway but check the timetables as they don't run all that often. Makesure you have a torch with you as you have to walk about 5 minutes up a dark rough drive way to get to the resort. |

Located in a nice park and just a short walk from the touristy Fishermans Wharf. The dorms are rather large here with at least 8 beds or more in each. The kitchen is really big but can fill up if there is a school or college group staying there. Not far from the bus stop so it is really easy to get around the city on public transport. Would recommend hiring a bike to cycle along the front and over the Golden Gate Bridge as there are amazing views from the other side. |

7. Carmlita Cottages, Santa Cruz, California

| Small hostel made up of cottages in a residential area of the town. Each cottage has a girls dorm and boys dorm with about 5 beds in each then you share the living room, kitchen area and bathroom. Located just a block from the beach and about about a ten minute walk from the town centre. Makesure you go to 'Pizza my Heart' whilst you stay there. Only problem is the 10pm curfew they have because it is in a residential area. |

8. Santa Barbara Hostel

| Hostel located a block from the beach. Slightly shabby and run by a load of chilled out surf dudes. Also located right by a railway line so can be fairly noisy. About a 5 minute walk to the centre of town. The locals here are some of the friendliest I had met in America, everyone said hello as you walked by! |

9. Backpackers Paradise Hostel, LA (Inglewood)

| Hostel/Cheap Hotel located close to LAX. This place is really cheap and they throw in loads of free stuff. They even send a taxi to pick you up from the Greyhound station for free, which is a good half an hour drive away. The dorm rooms are crammed full of bunk beds (about 22 people in the one i was in) but it is the only hostel close to the airport and they give you a free transfer there. |
