Family Springtime in Rhode Island

Ask this member a question. cbergh We often take long weekends from the Boston area when we can't afford a bigger trip that includes a flight. There is so much to see in our own backyard, and for 2 years in a row, we made Rhode Island our Spring destination! It's quiet that time of year, and sometimes you get a treat and the weather will be in the 70's or 80's

Great central location for exploring downtown Providence. Right next to a nice brew pub with affordable kids meals. Walking distance to Mall and Brown University campus.

3. Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum

Stay for the day or for the night. Nice biking along the beach, or walking by the waves. Tasty restaurants right in town that won't be crowdd in the off-season.
7. Block Island Ferry

Many people go to the Vineyard or nantucket -- but Block Island has its own quiet charm. Bring your bikes on the ferry, or just go for the views. To linger on Block Island, Crescent Beach is right there when you get off the ferry. One April, we went to Block Island and were treated to 80 degree days and no crowds. It was heaven. A beautiful island to explore for a day, weekend or week. Many off season bargains available.

terrific views of Newport, and in the heart of it all. Not as quiet as Bristol or Block Island, but still fun.

another quiet gem of a place with a cute downtown with shops, restaurants, ocean views and a playground up the hill.
