Hostal San Martin, Leon, Spain--A Real Find!

6 Nov 2006  Recent trip to Spain
0.0 of 5 stars based on 0 votes

Centrally located, inexpensive hostal with very good large, comfortable rooms which were sparkling clean, with a tiled bathroom with large tub and thick towels.
It only cost 39 euros for two per night including tax. It is run by Esperanza, a pleasant woman who speaks a liitle English. There is no elevator, but she made sure someone helped bring our luggage up and down the steps. The hostal is located on the 2nd floor (3rd floor-US). It is on a pedestrian street just east of Calle El Cid in the historic area of Leon. All major sights are within walking distance of the hostal which makes its location excellent.

  • 1. Boccalino

Delightful, inexpensive dining in Leon. Great menu del dia of only 9.30 euros. Indoor or outdoor dining facing San Isidoro Church. Terrific seafood soup and mixed seafood platter. A real find.

  • 2. Casa Botines

Building designed by Gaudi in 1892 as a department store and apartments with interesting turrets and windows. Has art displays and can be visited for free.

  • 3. La Posada--very good, local dining

This small, casual spot is a few blocks south of the main tourist area on Calle La Rua. It has a very good, tasty menu del dia of only 8.30 euros including 2 courses, bread, drink, and dessert. A very good bargain.
