1. Montana de Oro State Park
California State Park on the coast. A must see. Take the Bluff Hike and bring your bincoculars. We happened to have arrived there just before sunset and got to witness feeding time for the birds of CA. Let me tell you, there must have been over 2,000 birds, mostly pelicans. Gorgeous sunset, great photo ops. The shale beach is also really pretty, with caves and interesting rocks.
You can see this ancient volcanic rock from just about anywhere in Morro Bay. Some of the best views were from the Museum of Natural History in Morro Bay State Park or from a distance in Montana de Oro State Park.
We camped here in our Airstream with electric and water...very rare for a state park. Great for trailers or rvs but probably not for someone tenting it. There is a cafe here, the museum of natural history (great for kids), a marina, heron rookery, and even an estuary!
4. La Parisienne
French Bakery on Front Street. We went here for a fresh french loaf, some pastries, and coffee. The bread was super soft and everything was delicious. Service was a little slow, but worth the wait.
Elephant Seal Hangout!
We went on the "Experience tour". Very cool, tour guide was great - loved the midnight swimming pool the best :)
We went to this beach after visiting Hearst Castle - it's just south a liitte ways down the road. Very pretty beach, lots of neat rocks and driftwood. There is a boardwalk lining the beach too which is nice. Seals were basking in the late afternoon sunshine on a huge hunk of driftwood...very nice indeed.
8. The Garden Cafe in Los Osos
Great for breakfast. Very cute place and yummy food - patio in the back too. We had the "make your own omelet" picking goat cheese, avocado, and tomato for the fillings (just like we used to have at our favorite breakfast nook in NYC). The Garden Cafe was even better than our old standby.
