For a fun and slightly historical weekend visit Salem Ma. Learn about the Salem Witch Trials, meet a pirate and visit the shops at Pickering Wharf. Great for all ages!

1. Salem Witch Museum
This is a good place to start your look into the history of the Salem witch Trials. The outside of this attraction is awesome looking. The actual attraction is pretty good, but the figures are a bit strange looking. Basically you stand or sit in a big room and the story is told over loud speakers and different scenes are depicited in different parts of the room. Afterwards there is another attraction on the concept of what a witch is.
2. Witch History Musuem
This was probably my favorite museum. You start out with a storyteller and then you move to the actual museum with the storyteller. Again the figures are very odd looking but the narration is very good. You can also get a combo ticket to visit this museum as well as the Pirate Museum and the Witch Dungeon Museum
3. New England Pirate Museum
This museum was a close second as far as favorites go. A pirate takes you through the museum and recounts tales of pirates in Salem. Yo actually "climb aboard" a ship and becomed immersed in pirate lore. A lot of fun! This is part of the combo ticket.
4. Witch Dungeon Museum
This is third museum on the combo ticket. Worth a look just to see how the conditions of the cells that held the suspected witches in looked like. Before you enter the museum you see a re-enactment of part of the witch trial.
Re-enactment of the Bridget Bishop trial. Audience participation.
6. Witch trials Memorial and Olde' Burying Point Cemetery
Memorial of the accused who were put to death for being accused of witchcraft. Be sure to read their words. Very nicely done. Also be sure to check out the cemetery. Lots of old headstones and some famous people are buried there.
7. House of Seven Gables
I heard it was a nice visit. I never got around to visiting though. Hopefully next time I go to Salem I will check it out!
Not quite what you would expect. I first thought it was a real village. It is actually a tour through a museum type building that explains the history of witches and what being a witch really is all about. Several actual wiccans run this attraction so you really can get some good inforamation on Wicca. The attraction itself is pretty run down looking but overall if you get a good tour guide you learn a lot.
9. Salem Wax Museum
Not too much to see here. It is near the Old Burying Point Cemetery and you can get a "Hysteria Pass" to see this attraction along with the Witch Village at a discount plus a free witch trial scroll. Basically this is a one room "museum" that has info on Salem along with figures depicting different scenes. My least favorite attraction.
10. Pickering Wharf
A great place to shop and look out at the beautiful harbor. There is something for everyone here. Including a few great places to eat!
11. Morning Glory Bed and Breakfast
My husband and I stayed here 2 years ago. It is absolutely fantastic. You can park your car and walk to everything. We had the room with a private back entrance and we were able to come and go as we pleased. Perfect place to stay.
12. Hawthorne Hotel
This is the place I stayed at with the kids. It is right in the center of town. I heard some people didn't like their stay, but I found it just fine. They run specials so you should check their web site to see what they can offer. The room we had included admission ticket to the Salem Witch Museum and another museum. So it was well worth asking about any package deals.
13. Salem Visitors Guide
Great site to plan your trip to Salem. You can also order a guide on the site.
14. Alternate Salem site
I recently discovered this site. It has a lot of info on Salem. Another site you may want to check out if you are planning a trip.
15. Salem Ferry
New! Now you can travel to Boston from Salem or vice versa aboard a ferry!
