Miss the rest concentrate on the best of a beautiful charming city.
This route heading from the Little Mermaind, throught the city and Tivoli creates a great range of attractions and activities allowing you to get a feel for the culture, history and identity of the city. Using bus and walking to get around this tour picks out some key places worth visitng.
Along the way be sure to sample the cafes and bars, there is great beer and food to sustain your walking and exploring. Dont miss out on a French hotdog from one of the many street vendors, or a mug of glog to keep that cold winter air out.
This route also allows you to walk through various parks and greenspaces (Citadel area and along the water front by the Little Mermaid and Kings Garden area around castle) and also the world famous Stroget, the world's longest pedestrian street with lots of shopping, bars, specialty stores, major chains etc. These routes also lead into some of the cities squares, again enjoyable places to soak up the atmosphere and people watch, or indeed, drink more glog.
We did this route, starting at around 11am, and finishing at around 8pm, stopping for a drink in the National Art Museum, a coffe and beer in one of the cafes near the Royal Copenhagen shop, and a french hotdog in the main town square. In Tivoli stay as long as you like, plenty of food options, including sit down 3 course meals or snack bars.
Totally overhyped by the danes and thier tourist board but if you go to Copenhagen you have to go and see it or otherwise there is a sense of missing out, and explaining to everyone when you come home why you did nt!
A small and not exciting statue set against an industrial backdrop, make sure the zoom works of those pictures are going to not inspire anyone.
In a stunning large period building with modern extension, this spacious complex houses many fine contemporary pieces, along with interesting changing exhisbitions.
The cafe is also excellent
More of large stately city home than castle for war, built in 1606 and impresive, beuatifull Kingsgarden surrounds the building and makes a nice stroll, the castle contains exhibitions and displays of which the Crown Jewels are the highlight.
Walk or run up the walkway (no stairs until the very top) and enoy great views over the city, allowing all major landmarks to be enjoyed from a vantage point those who dont want to go on the 80 metre high swing at Tivoli can enjoy.
Christmas lights, stalls, and lots of spirit in the form of grog, enjoy the rides or walk through the lights and shops. Excellent fun and great at night.
