You get to see a tenement building built in 1846. This is located on Spring Street between Delancey and Broome Street. In my opinion, this is located in a sketchy area of the city but worth the trip during daylight hours. The Subway station is 2 blocks away. The tour times do not follow a pattern so it would be best to make a reservation and purchase tickets over the phone. A guide book directed us to contact a service call ticketweb and they are no longer taking reservations for this attraction. It was very interesting and will give you a glimpse into life living in a tenement plus some history about times back then.
Mostly followed a guidebook walking path which was confusing at first but led to some great finds. It was not Frommers or Fodors but a pocket guide. See a 9ft house jammed between 2 others. See Bleeker Bobs record shop from Seinfeld. Take a stroll down bleeker street and feel like you live in a small neighborhood instead of the concrete jungles of Midtown. Catch a performance artist in Washington Square. Eat a hotdog or two at Gray's Papaya for only $1.25 a piece.
Take the A or C Train to High Street and follow the handwritten directions posted near the subway exit. You will have to walk throgh a small park and under a road to end up on the pedestrian walkway which is in the middle of the bridge. From there see the best view of lower manhattan. the distance is about a mile from Brooklyn to City Hall which is where you exit the bridge. Then head to the block long J&R electronics store which rivals best buy in selection.
