If you only had one day to experience the best of Gatlinburg...these are the few things not to miss.
One of the best lodges in Gatlingburg and the surrounding areas. It is actually in Sevierville, which is about 5 minutes outside of Gatlinburg through a tiny touristy strip called Pigeon Forge. They serve a huge breakfast, enough to set you up till a late (and light) lunch. Beatiful place. Great place to return to each night.
Not to be missed. Huge place, tons of stuff to learn, something to keep kids and adults interested around every corner. Theres a walk thru tank(with a moving sidewalk), where sharks swim and rest above you and also a shallow tank where you can reach in and pet sting rays.
If you enjoy nostalgia, this is a store that is not to be missed. Tons of classic Coca Cola memorabilia, old metal signs. Large selections of Marilyn Monroe, Betty Boop, and The Wizard of Oz. A great place to spend 45 minutes or an hour browsing. If this isn't quite up your alley there are lots of other stores lining the main street that you can browse through, there are also 'artist colonies' that can be easily found on the maps provided in town.
A good place for a small(er) lunch, if you feel inclined to eat lunch after your large breakfast. No need to take anything you don't eat in a doggy bag, as the dinner you will be eating is way more than needed, and will provide you with lunch and dinner the next day.
a cute little historic area in Pigeon Forge (between Sevierville and Gatlinburg) that provides you with a pleasant, laid-back atmosphere to enjoy the rest of your afternoon. Theres a toy shop for kids, and a candy shop for the whole family. Small, locally owned shops sell handmade pottery pieces and yummy things to stock your pantry with. A great area to spend some time in, although the kids may get restless. Another alternative is any one of the many mini-golfing places around. The next item down is a selection.
An alternative to the Old Mill. It provides entertainment for the whole family, if you happen to be traveling with kids. If you do choose mini-golfing, I suggest staying in the Pigeon Forge area, as dinner is at the Old Mill.
A huge restaurant serving huge portions. This is a 3 or 4 course meal, so loosen your belt buckle and expect to bring things home. Everyones food is brought out at the same time, so please be patient, its worth waiting for.
The only show around that is actually funny and doesn't feature bears or country music. Absolutely hilarious. And good clean fun, suitable for the whole family or or anyone looking to laugh. Buy tickets in advance, the line gets long about 20 minutes before show time.
