1. Tokomaru Steam Engine Museum

The Tokomaru Steam Engine Museum is a private collection of machinery that tells a story of New Zealand's industrial and agricultural heritage. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the collection of working miniature models. Open Monday to Sunday 9am-3:30pm and Sundays from 10:30am-3:30pm.

2. Shannon

This bustling town sits of SH57 and is a great destination for shopping, coffee, food and indulgence. The boutique shops are include fashion, arts, home ware and crafts. Have a dig through the antique stores or wander the streetscape and admire the small town charm.

Owlcatraz is a wildlife park featuring rare and interesting animals set amonst native bush and farmland. The highlight is seeing New Zealand owls (morepork) up close in their state-of-the-art enclosure. Young families will love the petting zoo and miniature town.

4. Levin

Located at the crossroads of SH1 and SH57, the township of Levin is an excellent place to stop on your travels. Enjoy quality shopping and dining, great community facilities such as parks, an indoor swimming complex and the community hub, Te Takere.

De Molen is a full-sized, 17th Century replica Dutch working windmill. The shop on the ground floor sells Dutch food, including stoneground organic flour, ground onsite.

Just 6km from the township of Foxton is the beach, which is both a holiday destination and home to permanent residents. Apart from the beach, the Manawatu Estuary is a key attraction.
