The hike we took at Bothe Napa Valley State Park is about 5.0 miles long and located near Bale, California. But there are almost 10... more » miles of trails in 12 different loops - we ran into weather problems and had to cut short our hike. The trail we ended up documenting here is great for hiking and normally takes 1-3 hours. Dogs are not allowed on trails.
Accessed from Hwy 128/29, pay for Day Pass and park in day use area. We picked up a trail map from Visitor Center. Advise you get a map, but visitor center isn't always open, so come prepared. This is a beautiful hike among majestic Redwood trees and a variety of forest growth. Streams and stream crossing were part of trail - we didn't get wet feet, but one slip would have given us wet feet. Be sure to look at photos.
We started out on Ritchey Canyon Trail, and veered left onto Redwood Trail. Then veered left again onto Coyote Peak Trail.
Unfortunately for us, it had begun to rain. We did go to Coyote peak, then doubled back (Peak itself is a dead-end) to continue on the Coyote Peak Trail.
At Southfork Trail, we took the right fork to begin trek back to car, as rain was coming down steady. You can continue on Southfork Trail for more mileage, but weather concerns prevented us from having that added measure of fun.
From here we looped back to Redwood Trail, which merged back with Ritchey Trail, and back to car. less «
