Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Friendly staff. Had breakfast and evening meal.plenty of choice with breakfast before a full english was served. A large portion of dinner which was tasty. A handy place to stay with everything nearby. Even the local park was in walking distance.

Stayed here as it is one of only two hotels in Howden. It is looking tired and not in good order, but it is £37 per night. Took 20 minutes to book in and the bed was bad and the shower unclean, but was OK to rest my head after a night out with friends in Howden. I am going to Howden again in April with my partner but I would not want her to stay here, and I fear she would be unimpressed. On a price but don’t expect much.

Stopped here with a group of 10 riders doing the Trans Pennine cycle route. A very warm welcome was given a this family run place and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Some shampoo and shower gel in the room would have been handy as we were travelling very light. The breakfast was tasty despite the woman serving being a bit run off her feet

No security, only guests, dirty corridors, smelly room, grubby bathroom, cobwebs, peeling wallpaper, clean bedding but disgustingly dirty bed underneath. Chair with dirty backside mark. Checked in and then left at 1am because couldn't stay there!

Stayed 1 night when visiting family , the room with en suite was well decorated , clean and tidy although the bed was standard size [ we have a queen size one at home] the only downside was that shampoo and bath gels were NOT provided although a packet of biscuits was The full English breakfast was fine but £70 for the top end and no better than the Wellington Hotel next door which charges £60 per night

Stayed overnight as part of a cycling tour on probably one of the wettest spring British day and they helped and accommodated our late arrival. They stowed our bikes albeit in a 1st floor store. Would highly recommend and stay again.

We have just returned from a weekend in Howden. I booked three rooms for two nights. I can't fault this Hotel at all. From the time of booking to the time we checked out we all had a wonderful time. Lesley and her staff made us all very welcome, nothing was to much trouble. We had a Family party at the local Hall so the location was perfect. The rooms are very clean and good value for money. We will be staying there again. Thanks Lesley to you and all your staff. From Carol and Family

I had to travel back up to Yorkshire, my home for 40 years and decided to look for a hotel rather than drive back to Derbyshire. I used to drink in the Bowmans Hotel 20 years earlier and found a booking site. I called the hotel and the owner was very efficient. She explained I could stay on a room only basis as the chef was on holiday on the days I required. No matter, I knew the area and could sort myself out. It was fantastic to meet up with old friends and made a few new ones when I started asking about people I used to know. The hotel is an old coaching inn and still has a lot of the character, the room was lovely though, functional, clean and very comfortable. I shall return, hopefully for a happier occasion as funerals are not my idea of fun.
