The Rheinhotel Dreesen, aka “Das Weiße Haus am Rhein“, is our favourite hotel when visiting Bonn and surroundings, for the following reasons: Its location in a quiet side street in the “Villenviertel” [“Villa Quarter”] of Bad Godesberg just outside Bonn proper but with excellent connections to the city by public transport as well as a straight shot by car to the central car parks of Bonn. Its wonderful location with views – and relaxing sounds – of the Rhine River and the mountains of the Siebengebirge including the Drachenfels with its ruins of the Burg Drachenfels and the Schloss Drachenburg as well as the Petersberg with its Hotel Petersberg, (still) the official guesthouse of the Federal Republic of Germany. The exceptional service of a very friendly and guest-centered staff. The magnificent ambience reminding you of bygone eras. Its ever so sumptious breakfast buffet, the best I’ve ever come across. To sum up: this is a hotel where every guest is made to feel like a VIP, with the personnel reading the guests’ wishes from their eyes, a hotel that in the documentary “Legendäre Hotels. Geschichte, Glanz und Gloria” on the German TV channel “Terra X“ is mentioned as on par with the Adlon in Berlin and the Ritz in Paris. For detailed information, see my Wordpress Blog

This hotel has a lot of old world charm but with a modern and comfortable rooms. The rooms have everything you could need with a lovely spacious bathroom with a bath and shower (located in the bath). The staff are lovely and willing to help out with everything. The breakfasts are delicious and it is a full spread on whatever you could possibly want for breakfast. The river Rhine is right in front of you so I highly recommend a room with a river view. There is a nice Beer Garden next to the hotel, along the river as well.

This icon hotel is situated right on the Rhine River with barges passing right infront of you - you cannot stay closer to the Rhine. This hotel is also popular for conferences and has a good kitchen - but you need to make dining room reservations when making your booking. The superior, Rhine view room with balcony was nice and large. However, the rooms now need an upgrade. Orange carpets, poor shower in the bath and no Nespresso machine in the room is no longer acceptable. Parking is free, WiFi is free and the staff are friendly.

We have been searching for a hotel in the area we like for a few years and were never quite happy with the places we stayed at. Our trials and tribulations though have finally come to an end. We love the Dreesen. It is a historic hotel still owned by the progeny of the original founder. The house lies directly on the Rhine river offering a stunning view of the fabled Seven Mountains (think Cinderella), the Dragon’s Rock (think Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelungen) and the quaint little town of Königswinter. In good weather a promenade along the Rhine is a must. It is maybe noteworthy that the hotel while in Bonn is not close to the center, but is situated in the leafy and well-healed pool suburb of Bad Godesberg. There is public transport but without a car or a bicycle you will need to walk a bit to reach that, if you don’t want to take a taxi. The hotel offers bicycles though and the beauty of the location makes up for the rest. The hotel is in a nice historic building, has a beer garden, a good restaurant and good rooms. Those with balconies and Rhine-view are a special treat. The best thing about the Dreesen though is the competent and friendly staff. We had a lot of little requests (circumstances!) and we never heard a no. We got an early check-in, help with last minute ironing and laundry, etc. the staff is also exceptional nice and fun to converse with. We felt very welcome and at home. Thank you so much for making our stay so pleasant. We will be back for sure.

t may sound a little bit strange to say that such an old hotel has a lot potential to be really great. But essentially this is the problem of this hotel. It has a long great legacy (one they are obviously very proud of and you can even read in a Wikipedia entry) and an awesome location right at the river Rhine. But looking out of the window and looking into the past isn’t quite enough for current greatness. The reception was very friendly and supportive, however greatness would be place visitors of the house in a way that you don’t place them right over a raging wedding party, greatness would be to ask if you had breakfast, before you just call the price with breakfast (I know sound peculiar but that’s an unnecessary discussion at checkout). The room was very clean and mostly well kept, but greatness would be to repair even the the small things like cracked lids. It's the small things. Enough critique: The view, the location, the friendliness of the reception alone makes this hotel worth a suggestion. Free parking is a plus. That said I don’t really know if I would stay again there, maybe the experience with the wedding party is clouding my perspective and we had just exceptional bad luck. My opinion is that this hotel is high in the „good“ range, but probably not „very good“, but as there is no good in the rating system at trip advisor and average would be far too harsh, I opted for a „very good

Grand and historic large hotel right on the Rhine Plenty of street parking, though I found out later there is a hotel underground car park diagonally opp the hotel and free. But street parking fine and a very safe and quiet area. Room very nicely decorated and larger with an equally large bathroom. Both the bedroom and bathroom have their own small balconies overlooking the river, which was lovely. I have never stayed anywhere where the bathroom has its own balcony, but beware of passing cruises boats that can see in :) The hotel offers cheap bike hire for the day, and there is a nice cycle path along the river in front of the hotel. The hotel is very long and thin which means the beer garden is actually some way from the main hotel, not too far, but far enough. Breakfast was good, usual continental fare, and very adequate to set you up for the day. All staff I encountered were very pleasant and helpful. Would highly recommend and by far the grandest hotel of my Germany tour.

I was disappointed when we arrived here. The room did not look like the pictures on booking.com. The hotel is outdated. The elevator is very small and smells like mold. They tried to renovate the bathroom, but chose money over quality. The toilet is very old, they painted the seat instead of changing it, this is very unhygienic. The shower is very small, and if the neighbours are having a shower as well, there is no waterpressure and it makes a lot of noise. The bed is a bit small for two persons but comfortable. Our room didn't have an actual balcony as mentioned on booking, but a french one - basically just a big window that you can open. Breakfast was fine but not impressive, coffee was not of good quality. Location is fine, but you do need your car to go anywhere interesting. for businesstrips, this might be ok. Don't be fooled by the banner in the hallways saying you can go to a spa/gym centre for free, this is 3km's away and the people there will look like they see water burning when you come there, wanting to go inside for free, saying you're from this hotel. Last but not least, we chose this hotel because it looked like they had a nice outside area with lounge sets where one can relax. This was nowhere to be found. They do have a Biergarten next door, but that's not a place to relax. Taken all this into account, we payed 125 euros per night (in august), for this price we could've gotten a way better hotel with more facilities at a better location. To end with something positive; they do have a minibar free of charge, which they refill every day.

1) I heard about the history of this hotel and i saw the beautiful location by the river 2) staff seems not well trained, in any case no help offered with luggage no matter how much you carried, i encountered SOME friendly enough staff but some which were SHOCKING in the way they behaved towards a GUEST! beware do not come a second late when the want to stop serving food! or you shall be treated like a homeless asking for a meal!!! so if you want to dine there I suggest you come at least two hours before they want to stop cooking (even if their opening hours are still running) - otherwise find a real hotel with service mentality or a proper restaurant to eat rather. 3) bathrooms renovated so they are ok, carpets dated and filthy, only topper of bed has linens, the actual mattress does not and looked filthy too - 4) beware there is a lift but it does not bring you everywhere - you still have to climb stairs, so not very comfortable if you do have some luggage - especially bearing in mind you won t be offered help with luggage... 5) i could not get a room with a view towards the river but a colleague told me these are the nice rooms...

I spent three days at this delightful hotel situated on the Rhine. A definite plus is that you can rent bicycles for kids and adults on the premise. We did a morning bike trip along the Rhine and had lunch in the hotel restaurant. In fact, we ate all our dinners and breakfasts at the hotel restaurant. They will do special meal requests for kids too. The hotel retains its old world charm right down to the room keys. When I travel in the States, I get my key card at the hotel front desk, go up to the room, find the key card does not work and then return to the front desk. Mr. Dressen saves you this hassle by giving you an actual metal room key that always works! We will definitely return for next years visit.
