Here the life of the château can be experienced every day: wood panelling, fireplaces, mouldings. We have preserved the 18th century spirit which is carried through into our park with its 200-year-old trees.

This classic Chateau is picturesque and cozy. Sure it is cold in March, so if you come in cold months dress appropriately. We stayed in the private room with two floors. The only issue we had was it was hard to find, hotel.com could have better directions but the staff are very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. The breakfast was perfect for what we wanted, and the other guests friendly and talkative which made the stay even better. I commend the hard working staff for the hours they work, the smile on their faces, and the support they gave my family and I during our short stay. I do hope to come back.

The hotel is an old, rustic 18th century chateau situated within the rural section of Bayeaux, just a 20 minute walk into the city center. Looking at the photos may be a bit misleading, though, but considering the price one cannot truly expect more. Honestly, we thoroughly enjoyed our quiet stay after 3 weeks in noisy Paris, however it was not without having to accept the few eccentricities of the hotel. Our room number 1 had a huge bathroom with a walk in shower, a large closet, a comfortable king bed, and plenty of space for all our suitcases. However, the room heat was excessive and we were told the staff could not regulate it because the radiator heater key had been stolen and there was no replacement. We managed by opening the windows, but with no screens we were concerned about critters entering during the night so we cooled it down the best we could before turning out the lights. The shower was a bit of a challenge getting the water temperature regulated, but we reminded ourselves that it was an old building and maintenance is often difficult. The hotel restaurant was adequate, and even excellent, depending who was working that evening. We had fantastic service both at reception and dinner while Luna was working but, because it was the off season, keeping up the same level of service with new, less experienced staff was another challenge. I hope the management recognizes Luna’s value and commit to keeping her employed. All in all it was a good experience at a good value in a wonderfully relaxing and enchanting town. We even experienced the farmer’s strike for higher prices on their crops with a half hour peaceful parade of tractors and farm trucks! The true French experience!

Château de Bellefontaine is a beautiful residence, well placed to enhance one’s visit to Bayeux and all of coastal Normandy. “Downtown” Bayeux is a five-minute drive, and the landing beaches are also very close. Also easy drives to Honfleur and Mont St. Michel. The inn itself is spacious, quiet, and immaculately clean. I’d highly recommend Château de Bellefontaine to anyone desiring a taste of country charm in a gorgeous setting.

Beautiful property does not live up to its potential. After a long travel day, with the do not disturb sign on our door, they knocked loudly to clean. Hmm. I asked for additional coffee, as we had decaf only, and was told no. The breakfast is available, but many things were left out overnight and the things that should be hot, were room temp. The eggs, bacon, sausage all cold. I had to ask for water, as none was out. So, okay, we don’t have to go there. Next day we left our room at 7:30 am, returned at 5pm , and the room had not been cleaned or refreshed, even though the please make up room sign was on the door. The towels were paper thin, and they need a bath mat in the tub for safety. We do not recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a motorcycle tour of France (incorporating some rugby World Cup matches) and absolutely loved our stay in every way - merci beaucoup. The location and setting of the Hotel is lovely, quiet and picturesque while the hotel itself is charming and comfortable and only a brief walk from central Bayeaux. Our room on the 3rd floor was (admittedly) ‘compact’ but was very comfortable with everything we needed… en-suite, TV, safe, fridge/bar, nespresso coffee machine, air-con and even an umbrella (not required). Everything was clean and comfortable and we had a good, quiet night sleep. There is plenty of parking and even two EV charging points. Breakfast was plentiful and consisted of the usual continental breads, cheeses/hams/jams etc. with a hot food option (which we did not try), and in the evening we had a delicious two course meal and a bottle of red wine. A mention ref. the staff (which some reviewers have criticised), the hotel obviously does not have a large contingent of personnel, but they were always friendly, helpful and capable despite being busy at meal times. Perhaps some guest should show a little patience in what is a comparatively small rural hotel. All this for a reasonable price, so I would definitely return to the Chateau.

The room looked amazing at first glance, spacious and clean. Our room was classed as a deluxe but was situated above the kitchen and our windows overlooked the kitchen flat roof and a large ugly vent pipe that didn’t stop making noises until the kitchen staff went home, luckily we knew when that was by the continuous banging of doors. Our electronic room key stopped working and we all hoped the over ride key would work as it was Sunday and couldn’t be repaired, it worked, thank goodness. The breakfast was disappointing on day one, the water ran out in the coffee machine, the orange juice and the croissants were also all gone. The croissants were small and stale. The second night was too noisy to sleep until 2330 and we were woken again in the morning at 0630. Day 2 breakfast was even worse, tables hadn’t been cleared or reset, the croissants were over cooked and dry, Lidls croissants over sine them, the coffee ran out and the waitress was in reception having a chat. There were no prices for the mini bar so we avoided them, this chateau is over priced with what it can offer and the breakfast certainly isn’t worth the money. An expensive break that left us fed up and tired. When asked if we’d enjoyed our stay, there was shock when we said no. There are better places to stay for less money.

This is a beautiful hotel with some real problems. We made reservations at the hotel for dinner and learned the next night that the desk receptionist was also the bartender and the waitress. The food was horrible and while she was doing her very best, they were clearly understaffed. the daytime desk attendant was beyond rude, unfriendly, and unhelpful. This hotel is just far enough from town that you need to taxi nearly every time you want to go someplace and asking for the staff to call a taxi was not easy. The charming surroundings were not enough to make up for the rude staff. The Buffet breakfast is vast but much of the food seemed old or cold. It’s as if they were preparing food for a huge crowd, yet, this is a very small hotel.

A classic French hotel with a wonderful restaurant, this was a great place to stay in Bayeux. The garden and grounds on a summer evening could not have been more enjoyable. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the room was comfortable.

Our room was very quiet and the bed was comfortable. We also had a good sized bathroom which we had not seen much of in Europe. Loved the atmosphere of the hotel and the back area. This hotel is in a very walkable area.

We stayed for two nights. We wish we hadn't. On the plus side: the chateau and grounds are pretty and the cooking at dinner was very good. But everything else was abysmal. Reception staff are not interested in helping you (we had to drag our cases across yards of gravel), the stable block rooms have bathrooms up rickety stairs and in our room the amenities were missing or did not work (asking for help just elicited rolled eyes and gallic shrugs). On the first day breakfast was a disaster: there was no bread, croissants, cooked eggs and the attendant said that she couldn't do anything to help because the delivery order had been messed up. The second day was better and even the pre-ordered gluten free bread appeared. Dinner tasted good - when it eventually arrived - as there was only one woman serving the whole dining room and bar when she wasn't outside taking cigarette breaks. Such a pity. But it really deserves none.
