EXCELLENT LOCATION & STAFF . The gentleman at the front desk checked me in in less than a minute. Kind and cordial . The Vatican was walking distance . Extremely safe neighborhood. Markets and important land marks are within walking distance . Also , I can’t even praise enough the ladies at the bar/food/drink counter at the San Valentino ..,In the morning I got my cappuccino and my zucco de arancia (OJ) ….and in the evening my aperol spritz with stucciono (snacks) …. Five stars ⭐️ Beautiful Roman rooms and excellent staff to make your visit to Rome an unforgettable one ☝️

To begin with, this hotel mysteriously cancelled our reservation for the days around the Ryder cup and told us we could then rebook the room for more than 3 times the rate we had been given. We were lucky and found an Airbnb . We did have another separate reservation there for our last night in Rome and stayed there. In sum, it needs a serious refresh. Bathroom is really small and tired. Sink didn’t drain, floor threshold is coming off, floor in the room is dirty, and the bed had no blankets, just a sheet and a decorative skinny rectangular piece of fabric. Lampshades were old and torn. Front of hotel looks terrible. Some random wooden pallets stacked. The outside restaurant patio looks abandoned with furniture piled up, and there is a broken glass door. The saving grace is the location, walkable to restaurants and shopping.

Disgusting, rude & without power. We opted to stay here for 5 nights while visiting Rome. Upon check in everything seemed normal. Once we made it to our room we discovered a dirty comforter on our bed and shoes marks as if someone has been stepping on the bedding. After checking out the shower I noticed that the ceilings are covered in mold and the toilet hardware was rusting. On our second night there we returned from an excursion ant 10pm and found that lobby & hallway lights were working but our room was pitch black. The lights & air conditioning were not working. Our television & certain power outlets would work though. This would lead many to believe a fuse was blown within the property. We went downstairs to alert the front desk and were blown off. He said it would be back soon. We went back to our room to sit in darkness for an hour until making our way back downstairs for an update. 3 other guests were also waiting for an update as they were experiencing the same issue. The man at the front desk was obviously overwhelmed and was getting zero feedback from his manager or the “electric company”. While we were waiting another couple was trying to check in and got into a heated argument with the man at the front desk where they yelled at each other for 5 minutes. After this settled down we asked the other employee that was down there for an update and he scoffed at us & told me to call the electric company for myself. We went back up to our rooms to attempt to sleep but could not due to the employees sitting outside our window and smoking & being loud. Our power did not come back on until 5:30am. I have tried to reach out to the hotel multiple times for some type of refund, at least for one night and they have called me a liar & refused to refund. They also state that this was an outage in the area and not a fuse blown however all other bars, restaurants and hotels in the area had power. The street lights were also on all night. The hotel lobby and hallways also had power & were not the emergency lights like the hotel has tried to claim. DO NOT STAY HERE.

The hotel gives you the city feels of Rome. You can walk around the city from the hotel. A lot of restaurants, coffee shops, even bars are nearby. The room is well kept and clean. The staff are also great. While there are some who do not speak English well, they find ways to assist and attend to your request. There is an available bar in the hotel if you just want to chill and relax in the wee hours.

On my second night at the Hotel San Valentino, as I was getting out of the shower, the shower door shattered, and I was showered with broken glass. A tendon was severed in my right hand. Once I managed to get out of the shower (without walking on the glass) and dress, I went downstairs with my bleeding hand wrapped in a towel. The night manageer was very kind; he rushed upstairs with me, gave me sterile cotton and disinfectant to treat my hand and tried to sweep up the broken glass. I asked about a vacuum cleaner, and he answered," tomorrow." The hotel never vacuumed my room; there was still broken glass on the floor when I checked out a week later. They never offered me another room, nor did they wash the blood off of the walls and doors. I ended up in the hospital, having my tendon reconnected and my wound stitched, and when I inquired about reimbursement for my expenses, there was no response. I was supposed to travel to Dubrovnik for five days, but the doctors in Rome insisted that I stay to allow the tendon to heal. I had to remain in Rome until July 5, two weeks longer than planned, because the doctors did not want me to leave until they could take the stitches out. This extended stay cost me thouands of dollars. I moved out of the San Valentino to another, less expensive hotel. I had to take taxis everywhere, because I couldn't risk the subway -- the doctors told me to keep my hand as still as possible. The San Valentino did nothing for me. They told me to complain to Travelocity. I am still experiencing pain and a loss of strength and flexibility in my right hand. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone until the owners compensate me for damages. I have tried to contact them, and my lawyer has tried to contact them, requesting compensation, but they have not responded.

How can anyone expect their guest to pay 250+€ for a night and expect them to be happy with such disgusting circumstances? The rooms are in squalid, absurd conditions, they are not just “dated” but are deteriorating to an absurd degree, dirty and rotten. Check the traveler photos! This price gouging ripoff is something I have never seen before anywhere in the world. I feel abused.

If you expect a lot of amenities and extras you will be disappointed. The price of this hotel is very reasonable, so it offers the basics; with some positives and some negatives. The positives: a clean, comfortable bed, a functional bathroom, a good size tv with good reception; good location; very pleasant staff; super nice cleaning staff. Good price for Rome. The negatives: the air conditioning did not work (judging by other reviewers who had the same comment, I suspect it may be a permanent state of affairs) and the room was hot even with the window open; the Wi-Fi did not work on any of the 3 devices I had. Suddenly at the end of my second day there, it worked so I’m thinking it was just turned off. Walls are very thin.

Room was nice, great location of hotel but physically felt myself getting bitten during the night and me and my partner woke up today covered in bites! This is just not acceptable! Please bear in mind and wear bug repellent if you plan on staying here!

I stayed at the Hotel San Valentino for a week while vacationing in Rome. The staff is professional, friendly, and very helpful. I received many good ideas for restaurants and transportation from them. My room was clean and spacious; housekeeping was always on top of things and friendly. The TV and air conditioning were stellar, and the room had a small refrigerator and safe. Next door to the hotel is a nice little neighborhood cafe that I loved, and restaurants and pizzerias of various caliber and price are scattered around the vicinity. The entire area feels more like “normal” Rome than “tourist” Rome, which I found appealing. The hotel is one small block away from the Lepanto Metro stop. I regularly hopped on the Metro and traveled a few stops to have lunch or dinner near the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, even Piazza de Popolo. (Still can’t figure out why Piazza de Popolo isn’t packed with tourists, btw; Santa Maria de Popolo Church is gorgeous, and a few Euros will get you a quick snack or lunch of arancini at nearby cafes.) San Valentino’s proximity to the Metro station is only one of its conveniences. A front desk staff member was kind enough to point out a city bus line that stops at about the same location as the Lepanto Metro stop; I used the bus to get to the center of Trastevere for 1.5 Euro. In addition, the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica aren’t far by foot. I’m a bit decrepit, so it felt like a long slog, but I made the hike at least twice, so it’s do-able. (You can travel from the Lepanto Metro stop to the Ottaviano stop, which cuts the distance to the Vatican a bit, but I didn’t feel it was worth 1.50E to travel one quick subway stop.) For the record, the San Valentino is adhering to Italy’s strict covid protocols. You’ll be able to pick out the hotel’s entrance from the end of the block by spotting the hand sanitizer that sits on a little stand just outside the door.
