We found this hotel through Tripadvisor and planned to stay one night on our way from Rome to Brindisi As the other reviewer says this is a wonderful place to stay. The views are excellent , the rooms good and the restaurant is everything you expect from a good Italian restaurant; good local food , excellent service and good wine
After dinner we were entertained by a local flag waving procession by the locals in Medieval costume
Breakfast is provided on the 5th floor which is also the ground floor (the hotel is built on the hillside)
We enjoyed our stay so much we booked to stay one night on our return journey; again the stay was memorable

Castelmezzano is one of those attractively precariously-situated towns on the side of a mountain, locally called the "Southern Dolomites", but being in Basilicata, is a secret kept by daytrippers from Potenza and that's about it. Reassuringly, no one spoke English, nor was remotely bothered that they couldn't, and all signs and menus are only in Italian, and no postcards or other tourist tat at all. I think there is one other hotel here. Parking is a bit fiddly, but there are places nearby if you look. The rooms are great - good size, balconies, aircon, (Wi Fi ? - don't be silly) and the restaurant on the third floor is really very good and not expensive. The local wine is Aglianico del Vulture, strongly recommended, as is a visit to Melfi and Matera for the antiquities there . It's only a matter of time before Basilicata is touristyfied, so go there whilst it's genuine. more
