The hotel is in a quiet country lane and is a striking manor house with a walled garden. The main house only has 5 rooms although there are some additional converted brick farm buildings. We only stayed one night in the Hill room in the main house. The room was large and comfortable with decoration and furniture in keeping with... more

We stayed two nights here while visiting relatives and were very pleased with our choice. To be honest, we wouldn't have been visiting the Wem area if we didn't have family nearby, but we're very glad we did. Wem itself appears to be a once prosperous market down now sadly in decline, but there are plenty of interesting places to... more

Lovely old building with rooms of character and some with very sloping floors! Family run hotel but with staff who can not remember what drinks you order and one who had no idea why we would want some olives with our drinks! The food was fair with very poor selelction of deserts - nothing like the pictures on the web... more

We welcome guest feed back and the opportunity to improve; we would, however, like to reassure readers of this review of a couple of things. This guest’s party (a group attending a wedding elsewhere) were not all assembled and ready to order until an hour and a half after last orders. As an unavoidable result of the party’s unfortunate lateness,...

Stay at Soullton Hall as a birthday treat. Lovely countryside around the hall, the hall it self could do with a little updating in the lounge area, the room we stayed in the barnet room was a good size but again needs updating on the soft furnishing bathroom new ,spoilt by 20 year old curtains lots and lots of spiders... more

Management response from
soulton, Ann Ashton, owner

It is distressing that Freyas was disappointed with aspects of the furnishings. The room in which they stayed contains original 1500s wood paneling and has its original floor. Perhaps it will be appreciated that this does have a bearing on the scope for soft furnishings – however the room does have a new sofa and the curtains referred to have...

Friendly and well run. The building is amazing. Had a two night stay, food is great, was really relaxing in lovely countryside. The house is rather old, but the bathroom was really modern, obviously re done recently which was great. more

I recently booked Soulton Hall entirely to celebrate my 40th birthday with my 20 closest friends. We had an amazing Easter weekend in this beautiful house with its magnificent rooms. The Ashton family made us feel incredibly welcome and tempted us with amazing homecooked food. I cant wait to go again ! more

Just stayed one night (wished it could have been more) but had a fantastic meal. The five of us all enjoyed the stay and meal, accomadation excellent and the warmth of the Ashton family great. The meal was superb "really good tasting food"and the choice we were allowed excellent. Fantastic find hope to return someday. more

Me and my boyfriend visited Soulton Hall to celebrate it being two years since we had met, and had a really fabulous weekend. On arrival we were served coffee with home made biscuits, and then shown to our room by the owner. We were in the Deakin room; spacious; huge princess and the pea style bed; and lots of windows... more

Wonderful short break here. Great (wood panelled!) room with a secret door to the bathroom. Super dinner. Very relaxing. Also, enjoyed walk on attached farmland, esp. the bluebells in the woods. Glourious weather helped us to enjoy our stay all the more... They’re getting things right here. more
