Great stay, needs car to get there but there’s attractions/ foot bath nearby. We went to sister hotel to use private outdoor bath which was excellent. Covered with white snow and beautiful there. Service was excellent. Highly recommend stay.

Stayed one night on the way to Naeba Ski resorts. We didn't know anything about Tsukioka onsen, but we are so glad we came. 1. Location About 35-40min drive from JR Niigata Station. We rented a car at Nigata station, drove to Pier Fishmarket (great fun, must stop) and had quick lunch, drove to beach to look at the Japan Sea, drove to Tsukioka Onsen. I think hotel would be great if there's shuttle bus from Niigata Station. In Tsukioka Onsen (spa) town, town has cute stores on the streets, Sake tasting for 500yen etc, very reasonably priced. There's Ashiyu (foot bath) in town and it was very nice. We were worried about snow storm. In the end all the road was clear and no snow on the road. Rental car provided studies tire and we were very comfortable driving. 2. Facilities Building might be old, but it is VERY well maintained. Ikebana flower everywhere, large lobby and souvenir shop with good selection. There's no room with private bath but we paid to use Kashikiri Furo (Private rental bath with outdoor tub overlooking garden) at sister hotel next door. Hotel staffs drove to next door Kaho hotel, which was great service. There's heated swimming pool at Kaho. 3. Room Overlooking Tsukioka town was SO nice. Snow covered everywhere, it was very pretty. There's small wet bar, separate toilet and bathroom with double vanity. Our tatami room was HUGE with corner windows overlooking town. 4. Food Dinner is at restaurant and it was good portion. Presentation was very nice and staff was very pleasant. Overall I love this hotel because service was amazing. Every staffs were smiling and willing to help. Large lobby is good for group to lounge or kids to run around. For the price I paid it is far better than Hoshino resorts we stayed few months ago (every Hoshino hotel's service varies) and we'd love to come back again.

My colleagues and I took a business trip to Niigata, and we arranged to stay at this lovely ryokan in the Tsukioka Onsen area nearby. I have been to onsen in Hakone, Arima, Kinosaki - which all have their charms. Certainly for the ryokan itself this is in the same category of elegant, old-style establishments. The in-room multi-course dinner and morning buffet breakfast were delicious. The baths had a somewhat sulfur odor, but not bothersome at all, and they were beautiful, both the inside and outdoor ones.

We reserved a room in Senkei because it has got high ratings from domestic customers on Rakuten Travel site. The building from outside looked a bit aged and we had some concerns but it was well maintained and renovated inside and the stay was very very comfortable. Every detail got attention from very friendly and efficient staff members. A modern guest room, great spa ONSEN, delicious food, great collection of artwork and the garden. We will definitely come back! (Or to its sister Ryokan)

This was one of the best things I experienced in Japan during my trip and the first onsen in my life. And that was incredible, the baths change according to the time, so we could visit both open air baths. They provide you with everything, so the only thing you need to bring id you) Everything starting from greeting of the staff outside and inside and farewell with all the staff is just excellent. The day we arrived the bus with 400 visitors has approached, but it did not affect our stay. The rooms have nice view of the town, and you can experience a nice japanese style bed. This is the place one should come back)

One of the best hotel I have stayed during my recent trip. The hotel is situated at a very nice location. Room is big and the dinner is simply superb. Not to mention the service. When our coach arrived, there were a few of the staff on standby, ready to welcome us outside the hotel. They bowed even as we alighted. They did that to every guests that arrived or left. Being the first group from Singapore to stay at the hotel, we were given 3 bottles of wine. The open air bath is a wonderful experience. Take a walk around the vicinity. Scenic and beautiful view a short walk from Ryokan.

I visited Niigata several times due to my work. Whenever I visited there, I stayed at the hotel or guest house in the city. This winter, I was introduced that there is a good hot spring, Tsukioka Onsen, near Niigata. I stayed a Senkei ryokan(hotel style, but surely ryokan), among others. This ryokan was big, and had very good open-air bath. Food was marvellous with lovely taste and color. I was served of traditional Japanese course at an independent room at dinner, and a variety of buffet at breakfast. Hot spring and food were all excellent. Even though it took an hour from the Niigata station, with change of train and bus, it surely deserves to visit and stay.
