We stayed here in April. Lovely authentic ryokan experience. The food was divine. The owners were charming and helpful. Would definitely return.

We stayed at the Auberge Watanabe for one night in March this year. We were the only guests that night and the owners very kindly upgraded us for free, allowing us to stay in the largest room, which had a wonderful cypress bath. The Inn is set in a fantastic location next to one of the main temples (although it... More

First class service from start to finish - pick up and collection at ferry to green tea at checkin to general service throughout our stay. You could not fault it. Beautiful room overlooking the river with fantastic self filling bath. Dinner was delicious - full kaseki dinner - top class, good pace and each course explained by the charming owner.... More

I know this is a very late review, but better late than never. Watanabe Inn on Miyajima Island had to be the highlight of our 11 night trip to Japan in December 2010. The Inn has only 3 rooms and we stayed in " Shiraito" which is the biggest room. The room was amazing and huge with a small veranda... More

We stayed at Auberge Watanabe for two nights in October and it was one of the highlights of our 16 day trip to Japan. Staying on the island really does give you the chance to experience it without the crowds - it's surprisingly calm come 6:00pm every day! The hosts were great and very patient with the time we took... More

The only negative aspect was that we had only two nights here – hope we can return some day for a longer stay. Miyajima Island is a lovely place to spend some time, especially after the tour groups leave at night. We had “Momiji” room, which was very comfortable, with a sitting room, bedroom (where the futon beds magically appeared... More

One of the very best, very helpful, great room, great location. For this quality a great price too. I particularly appreciated the temperature controlled soaking tub in our private bathroom. I would strongly recommend Watanabe Inn for those who are looking for the real ryokan experience. .

The Auberge Watanabe (or the Watanabe Inn) is a family run traditional Ryokan coupled with a restaurant nestled against Momijidani Park. The location, accommodation, food and welcome that we got here, coupled with the beautiful island itself, made for one of the most magical travels we have ever had. There are only 3 rooms in the hotel and we stayed... More

All previous reviews are correct. This is a wonderful place with great atmosphere. The quiet magic of the island, once the daytrippers and masses of tourists have returned to the mainland, is best enjoyed from this ryokan. Only three rooms! The food is very impressive.

We stayed here nearly ten months ago (should have written a review sooner, I know). I've been to Japan a couple times, eaten at 3 star michelin restaurants, stayed in inns all over the country. This is hands down the BEST place I've stayed in Japan, perhaps anywhere I've ever traveled. And the food rivals the top restaurants in Japan.... More
