Perhaps had we not visited the Gora Kadan ryokan I would have had a more favorable review of Iwaso. I suppose I expected a similar room and bathroom experience and maybe had been a little spoiled by the beauty of Gora Kadan and thought other ryokan lodgings would be similar. A travel agent made our reservations and we probably should... more

The service is impeccable. The front desk speaks English well. We were fortunately to be given a great corner room on the top floor (room 506) with views on two sides--one facing the Torri and another the mountain. The room is beautiful and clean. The bedding is comfortable. The food was wonderful and large in portion. We have a 5-yr... more

I have been meaning to post this review for sometime but have been torn between a reluctance to share and not knowing where to start. It is difficult to discribe an experience at an Onsen like Iwaso and at such a magical place as Miyajima.Hence, I will make it brief. Miyajima itself is an enchanting sanctuary that deserves an overnight... more

We had planned our arrival from Kobe by Shinkansen to Hiroshima and then, ferry to Miyajima around 2.30pm, just so that we would be able to check into the ryokan without delay. Upon arrival at the Miyajima jetty, we approached the tourist office to call Iwaso, and after a mere 5 minutes wait, the hotel's van was there for our... more

I booked a night at the Iwaso through Japanese Guest Houses, and it was the first of three hot spring guesthouses I stayed at. The location was very easy to reach, however don't try to walk from the boat to the guest house - ask the information center to call you the free shuttle. The room was a very good... more

Our one night at Iwaso was our big splurge during our trip to Japan. Miyajima is a beautiful island and Iwaso is right on the edge of the forest. The service was impecable from the moment we arrived, although some of the staff on the front desk had quite limited English and were unable to understand our requests about where... more

After staying in budget ryokan for two weeks, we decided to spurge on one high quality, tradtional ryokan. I read the Trip Advisor reviews and booked Iwaso because it sounded quiet and beautiful after the daytrippers left the island. We stayed for one night and it cost about 50,000 yen. Our other ryokans cost from 7000-13000 yen, so you can... more

We had a corner room that had a wonderful view of the ocean on one side and the forest on the other (room 406). There are two buildings at this property, a newer one and an older one and we reserved the newer one. The room rate includes dinner and breakfast. The room was spacious with its own tiny bathroom... more

Arrived an unfortunately it was raining. The room was very basic. The staff was pleasant. We were somewhat disappointed with the room. The futon, which you sleep on, was paper thin making for a very unconfortable sleep. A small 19" LCD television. The room did have a nice view of the forest like setting. The dinner was good and the... more

This is a lovely Ryokan on Miyajima Island. It is in a beautiful forested setting. It is a good home base for seeing Hiroshima. The rooms are traditional ryokan rooms, with tatami mats. The room that we had was actually quite spacious and the futons were comfortable. The food was great, ours was served to us in a traditional ryokan... more
