Booked 2 rooms at the Normanhurst as all budget hotels were booked up in the city centre. We got there and the hotel gardens and reception area looked ok - obviously once a very grand house, it still has some of that charm. A very helpful girl at reception gave us our keys and showed us to the rooms -... more

Pleasant, traditional hotel.A little scuffed, and the rooms need updating, but really rather delightful.Mostly older guests when we were there - the singer crooning show tunes gave my wife the giggles initially, but I found it quite charming. Enjoyable evening meal (look out for their summer offers for a slight discount when booking with an evening meal). They deserve credit... more

To start, this hotel had very friendly staff but the accommodation itself was very disappointing. Upon entry to our room we found the hall door appeared as if it had had a previous forced entry as there was broken and missing wood pieces adjacent and just below the door knob. The bathroom door knob was hanging off and the bathroom... more

Stayed at this Hotel as part of a Birthday Party group. Could not fault one thing about this Hotel, the serviice, the friendly staff, the food and the room in which we stayed in overnight were all memorable. First impressions were of a roaring fire in reception that we honestly believed was a real coal fire, turned out it was... more

My wife and I stayed at the Normanhurst whilst in Altrincham for a christening. To look at the hotel is nice and quite traditional. On the face of it, it looks nice, but there are lots of things which lets it down and you only get to realise once you are there. In our room the pullcord on the bathroom... more

I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions when visiting Manchester. The staff are always welcoming, fires roaring, and nothing is too much trouble. All of the rooms I have stayed in were spotlessly clean, comfy and warm – and on the odd occasion when you need an extra towel or pillow, Marjena (?) from Reception will bring them... more

As you may have noticed from the title of the review, I did not enjoy my stay at the Normanhurst hotel. However, in the interest of writing a balanced review, let me list the good points of the hotel. Friendly reception staff, big roaring fireplaces, traditional (if a little dated) decor inside. We stayed at the Normanhurst for a friends... more

We were in the Manchester area to visit friends and stayed at the Normanhurst over the weekend. What a delightful Hotel. The Staff were all very friendly unlike various hotel chains we have stayed The reception and bar had beautiful fireplaces with roaring fires (I thought they were real coal but found out they were gas) and the food in... more

We have just returned from a trip to the Normanhurst. We booked through the hotels website and as a family we were really looking forward to our night away, however, when we were shown to our three rooms we were in for a shock. The rooms where so basic, not even a alarm clock or a picture on the wall.... more
