and when we did it, we went straight from Poland to one month Japan trip. on our way, we found Kaiyu (in fact, it was reccomended by our friend who has been there). Kaiyu is not a hotel. This is your new house, when you out of yours. First impression - the way you came in. You are welcomed by... More

This is like staying at your best friend's house if your best friend owned a 1960s convention centre overlooking the best beach in Japan. Mitsu makes you feel at home from the moment you get there. Dinner is like eating with a bunch of relatives that you only wanted to get to know better. The food is out of this... More

Like others here we also found Kaiyu Inn in Lonely Planet and can only echo the other posts below. Mitsu is a great host. Cheery, welcoming, helpful and great to chat to. His wife Tae, cooked us up a feast on our first night that beat every other meal we'd eaten in Japan. She is a masterchef!! Incredibly fresh stunning... More

Kaiyu Inn is a very special and unique place. Staying there was unlike any other experience I have had in Japan. It's somewhat of a cross between an eclectic beach resort hotel, a Japanese ryokan, and a posh family homestay with amazing chefs. The owner is exceptionally nice and knowledgeable. He can speak English well and encourages conversation at the... More

We cate straight down from some full on rafting days in Shikoku, and we had the most amazing time here. There is nothing but great nature, so come for that and remember to stock up If you want something. Kaiyuu can provide lovely meals, morning and evening. This is not Hilton, but the rooms are good and clean, the hotspring... More

We read about this place in the Lonely Planet and decided to head for that remote place in Shikoku (especially if you have to get there on public transportation: the JR rail pass is not valid for the last stretch to nakamura and then you have to take a bus), but it's worth the hassle going there. Even more so... More

Kaiyu ("ocean healing") is a gem of a place. The owners are a couple that radiates friendliness, making one feel at home. Only their "home" includes wide views over the pacific and a healing onsen that you can use both as a couple or women/man only. After a day of snorkeling (they do excursions and provide equipment), relaxing, swimming in... More

Kaiyu Inn is located right across from Ohki Beach and has stunning views in all of it's rooms. We stayed in a two-bed tatami room which had both a TV, AC and small kitchen. The all-natural onsen is amazing after a long day in the waves. In addition to two hot, adjustable baths, there is one cool bath and a... More

We stayed at the Kaiyu Inn on 6/25/2012. We had a fabulous time, it was one of the high points of our trip. Our room was beautifully designed in a modern style, with lots of woodwork, and also had a very nice traditional Japanese section. The room had a spectacular view of nearby Okihama beach. The Inn has an attached... More

The enigmatic owner Mitsu has created a unique hotel experience in the Ashizuri Cape, quite unlike anywhere else we stayed in Japan. Each room in the condominium block has been transformed into a mini-design project with Mitsu using his love of natural materials and design classics from the 50s, 60s and 70s combined with a nod to traditional Japanese simplicity...
