The Fujiya is a great, 7-room ryokan in the gorgeous, quaint and idyllic onsen town of Kurokawa onsen. This is an overnight trip from Kumamoto that is highly recommended. The gorgeous front gate with moss, stone and wood is picture perfect. The hotel is rather new, but tries hard to recreate old Japan with lots of antiques and traditional construction. However, as with all the hotels in the town, you buy a day pass for 1,200 yen and it allows you to visit all the baths you like in the town! I recommend the rotemburo next to a waterfall at the Ikoii onsen, just two doors down from the Fujiya. Incredible getaway that allows you to get your fill of bathing in mineral baths! Go... more
