At the end of 5 weeks in NZ we wanted a few quiet days doing nothing much before flying back to UK. From Googling we picked the Glenorchy Lake House and we are just so glad and feel so lucky that we did. This lovely wooden building is just across the grass from the head of Lake Wakatipu and is about 30 - 40 mins drive from Queenstown. It is owned by John & Toni Glover of Kinloch Lodge just across the lake, 5 mins by boat or about 20 mins by car. The Lake House is their 'luxury wing' and is superbly fitted out to a considerable degree of taste and comfort. The views of lake and mountains are all around you and are simply breathtaking - what a way to wake up every morning! We cannot recommend it too highly.
There is a large living room for guests, only 3 bedrooms and a fully fitted kitchen, so you can opt to self-cater or to have a delicious breakfast cooked for you. For 4 of the 5 nights we were there we had the house to ourselves and it really did feel like home. The... more
