We were prepared for the non-electric facilities and did enjoy the change from city locations. I did add some new birds to my list, so that made me happy. My husband would have liked to be able to read once darkness fell at 7-8 pm. and some of the more efficient kerosene lamps available now would have helped. For me... More

We stayed for a night here during our recent trip through the Copper Canyon. The rooms are authentic with a fireplace, and petroleum lamps. Clean and nicely decorated. If you need to charge your camera / cell phone etc, ask the owner, as the rooms don't have electricity. Food was cooked by the local Tarahumara staff of the lodge, excellent... More

great place, full of charme. We spent there one night and we enjoyed the special atmosphere due to no presence of electricity (candle lights and wooden fire heating) and to a very good menu prepared by tarahumara cooks (one of the few places where you can have that). From the bungalows very nice trail to waterfalls.

This lodge is a quaint, hotel tucked in the edge of a forest, next to a stream. Spotlessly clean, and immaculately maintained, this hotel has no electricity, so be aware, it is difficult to read by lamplight. And, it is cook in this part of the canyon, so the room will be cold. The staff will light the lamps and... More

Stayed here 2 nights. If you are looking for luxury, look elsewhere. My wife and I tent camp 1-2 months per year, so having kerosene lamps for lighting and a fireplace for heat, were not a big deal. In fact. they were quite enjoyable. Food (included) was simple but excellent, as was the nightly pitcher of margaritas. The staff were... More

We only had two nights here before leaving the Canyon area but it was one of the highlights of our trip. The rooms are basic, but there is hot water which to us is essential. The real plus, however, was the deliberate avoidance of electricity although it is available in the area. We always carry small lights for reading where... More

As previous reviewers have noted this place has no electricity despite the area having power for 2 years. This makes the rooms dark and the bathrooms even darker. Kerosene lanterns don't put out much light! Our room had a fire and I suspect they all do but it was not needed in July. There was hot water but the shower... More

This charming lodge is located within easy walking distance of a waterfall and a short hike away from the village of Cusararé. Both the museum and the mission make it worth the effort to stroll into town. There is no electricity but when we returned to our room after dinner we found the kerosene lamps lit and wood for the... We stayed one night at the Sierra Madre Hiking Lodge outside of Creel due to the rave reviews we saw in certain travel guides. After 2 days in town, we wanted to get out of Creel and spend some time in an area with hiking opportunities and a quiet atmosphere. This lodge offers both in abundance! But be prepared for... More

The Sierra Lodge was built by American Skip McWilliams 40 years ago, when it was a primitive location without electric power. Skip made a lot of the lack of power adding to the ambiance, and that he could get more for the rooms without power than with. This lodge is still a nice, quiet, rustic place to stay in the... More
