Great house, great people and I felt great because of it. Stayed 3 nights. Very relaxing atmosphere and great location across from beach and great surfing at Shipwreck Bay. Best to have a car because it is a bt out of town and that is part of the charm. Bring your own food and drinks and use the great kitchen,... More

I only spent one night here but I could have stayed far longer. The owner(?) is incredibly friendly, and the house is beautiful. There's plenty of space to lie around in hammocks in the front garden and an amazing outside table in the back garden covered in grape vines where every one gets together to eat. Ahipara is a little... More

Absolutely fantastic lodge/backpackers. Dorm rooms are large, high ceilings and airey, tons of room. There are private double-twin rooms upstairs too. There are 4 loos and 4 showers, maybe another has been added since a previous review stating not enough. When I stayed the lodge was full on many nights and I didn't have to wait or queue for loo... This is definitely the best backpackers I have ever stayed in. It's a beautiful old villa, well maintained, very clean, good sized rooms and very comfortable bed. We only had two nights there but wished we could have stayed longer, it was lovely to wake up and hear the waves lapping on the beach and be able to walk two... More

I stayed there for 3 nights with a friend and couldn't ask for much better. The staff are friendly and helpful, great kitchen facilities and literally across the road from a lovely beach you can get mussels from etc if you feel inclined. The rooms are nice and simple with comfy beds, some shelves, table and even give you a... More

This is one of the nicest hostels I have stayed at! It is a beautiful historic building in the area and it has been maintained beautifully and with pride. The rooms are well presented and I would say most have views of the sea. It has table tennis at the front, along with plenty of lovely areas to sit and... More

Fantastic location just across the road from the beach with a large grassy front lawn. We had great fun playing table tennis on the front lawn- what a great idea. My daughter got very good at the balancing board on the tube too. These additions are thoughtful and really topped off our stay. Two hammocks with the sea breeze also... More

Your review put a smile on our faces. Blaine made the table tennis table himself and he was hoping people would enjoy it, so nice to read, that you had fun with it. More

Stayed for one night whilst travelling through the area with partner and 3 month old baby. Fantastic room with sea view (Room One), good sized kitchen and lovely outside area. Reasonable WiFi suitable to check email (160Mb limit per day). Very friendly owners. Nice newly redecorated bathroom although bit of a wait at peak times as only 2 bathrooms for... More

A beautifully restored Kauri villa right across the road from the beginning of the 90 mile beach. The rooms were basic but very clean and recently redecorated. The shower room and single toilet on the upstairs floor were clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well equiped and very clean too. There was a lovely BBQ out the back and... More

We sadly only stayed here one night, in a twin and a double room upstairs - within sight and sound of the sea. The rooms were small, but clean and comfortable, and soothingly decorated in yellows and rich blues and reds - not your usual hostel decor. The nearby shower-room was tiny, wet and not totally clean - but it's... More
