Everything about our stay at the Fortview was good. Catherine spent a good share of time finding our relative connections in Cavane and Monaghan and setting up appointments for us to meet these people. I had wished it might be possible to find relatives, but didn't dream she would be able to manage it. Catherine has a real passion for... More

Words are not enough to describe how fantastic my stay at Fortview House was. From the minute I set foot through the door and up to when I left, I was given nothing short of a first class experience. Kate and Sean were so very welcoming and went to great lengths to ensure I got the most out my visit.... More

Catherine and Sean warmly welcomed us into their home. My sisters and I had made the trip to Ireland to get to know the country of our ancestors. My grandmother had been born close to Fortview House and soon after we had made our reservations, Catherine started making enquries in the area on our behalf. She arranged for a local... More

I stayed here for a month what a difference, as someone who spends a lot time working in Ireland spending that time in hotels and B&Bs the welcome here at Fortview House is something uniquely special, from the moment you meet Catherine you feel part part of the family and as part of the family you know Catherine will do... We found Fortview House a wonderful place to stay and good value. Our room was large, quiet and comfortable, and the meals were very good indeed. But what stays in our mind is the kindness and efficiency of the co-owner Catherine Smith. We were in Ireland to find family and she located 3 members for us before we arrived and... More

I was in Ireland seeking my ancestors from the 1800's. Our hosts, Catherine & Sean Smith, were perfect in seeing to our needs and extremely helpful in guiding my search. I found my ancestral lands and Catherine found a cousin for me. We felt totally at home throughout our stay.

I have just returned from a wonderfull 2 week in holiday at Fortview House. We used Forthiew as a base to travel around the North West and Northen Ireland. Each morning we started with Catherine's wonderfull Irish breakfast and she provided us with a packed lunch made up of home made bread, delicious scones, yogurt and fruit. The bedroom provided... Catherine and Sean were very welcoming, accommodation left nothing to be desired and the food was excellent. Welcoming coffee with home made cakes, supper and a bountiful breakfast made for a very pleasant stay. Catherine had made prior enquiries re our genealogical search with endless phone calls and this helped us enormously. Sean took time off to guide us to... More

I was at the end of a seven week trip and wanted to search the area my gt gt grandparents had come from. Catherine and Sean could not do enough to find people who could help me find places. The food was wonderful and it was just like staying with family and it was the best part of my tour.... More

Our heartfelt thanks to innkeeper Catherine Smith and family for a warm and charming place to stay as well as the unbelievable amount of help she gave to us in finding relatives still living in Cavan county. Our ancestors left Cloverhill 200 years ago and yet Catherine was able to track down the few remaining descendants for us and invited... More
