Very interesting hotel with loads of charm. As other reviews here have said, the Bandarawella Hotel is a step out of time, and a great one for that matter. The hotel has a wonderful charm with its mix of 1900's come 1940's! It offers a relaxed environment with very friendly staff and good food served in teh 1940's dining room.... More

As other reviewers have said, arriving at the Bandarawela Hotel by tuktuk from the station through this bustling town is like entering a time warp. Although a few small elements have been updated, it felt like we had stepped back to 1900 and little in our room, apart from the very comfortable mattress and the bedlinen, had been altered since... We had wanted to stay in Ella as we were getting the train the next morning to Nano Oya, but everthing was fully booked. We booked the Bandarawela Hotel from Yala on my iphone so couldn't get a good look at it. We arrived with some trepidation, but we were over the moon with the hotel. The whole place was... More

Bandarawela Hotel is situated in the centre of town and is a good location for a bit of town exploring. The town is quite small but bustling with fruit and veg markets and other various shops. The Hotel itself is very quaint and colonial. Surprisingly peaceful for its location too. The room was large, with fan only cooling (no air... More

A Clean comfortable hotel with good food and is centrally located. Though not surrounded by the beautiful tea plantations, it’s in an excellent location to explore the province. Bogoda wooden bridge ( world’s oldest surviving wooden bridge), Ancient Dowa temple, Muthiyangana Temple, Ravana falls, Diyaluma falls, Ravna caves, Dunhida falls, Demodara train loop with the nine arch bridge, Pilklinton point,... Lovely old building with good attentive staff. Unique menu for Sri Lanka in our experience - the only place we saw Shepherd's Pie! We had steaks (the only time we bad any beef in 6 weeks) and it was excellent. The rooms are fairly basic, but that is in keeping with maintaining a "Colonial Feel". It is not far to... More

Hotel is colonial and has a distinct special atmosphere, especially the restaurant. Dessert buffet is fantastic. Rooms are very simple though, you can follow the conversations of your neighbours, and the town is not really interesting. Accommodates large groups. Better go for a hotel with a wide view of the tea-hills.

Stayed here for only 1 night but was really impressed with this old colonial hotel. Some of the decor was like in the past but the place had character with the old coal fire in the bar. Would definitely stay here again if coming back to Bandarawela.
