A satisfying hotel with a colonial hangover with brass beds fireplaces and ancient plumbing. Its old world charm. An excellent dinner with an uneatable lunch. The staff are excellent since they are village lads.Bandarawela is very disappointing and the hotel is a oasis in the desert. More

We did not stay there, but Recently on our way to Passara, had breakfast at this beautiful colonial hotel. the breakfast (mix of Sri lankan and English) was superb and it is relatively comparable to what is served at 4 or 5 star hotels (I thought). Staff was friendly and courteous. Common toilet (a typical old world style one) was... More

We stayed here for one night over the Xmas period. Food is good but during our stay we made a complaint about an issue that had arisen. The night staff were not interested and made no effort to help us with our problem. This was a shame as the hotel has lots of character and most staff were friendly. More

This hotel needs time to grow on you, and I can only review it fairly by dividing features into good and bad. Very Good - Genuine, warm and friendly service (ie not staff just looking for tips). Some of the best food, and choice, we had on our trip around Sri Lanka. Very atmospheric 'colonial' communal areas, and lay out.... More

stayed here one night as part of an Explore Worldwide tour group. It was pouring rain and chilly the day we arrived so I cannot be too sure if the a/c and fan were working. Nice big room with high ceilings. All the furnishings are contemporaneous with the hotel. Clean with hot water and an actual claw foot bathtub. Very... More

Great hotel to stay at I believe it dates back to 1902.Full of old colonial charm.Staff friendly and attentive.Bar and sitting areas very relaxing with a lovely feel. The kind of bar where you just wanted to sit long into the night.Rooms were very clean with rather quirky furnishings great A/C and fab shower [best one we had in Sri Lanka]... Wonderful three night stay, which was a perfect destination after taking the observation train up from Kandy. Staff couldn't do enough, and from breakfast through to post dinner drinks in the bar (with a real life tea estate manager!), service was impeccable. Highly recommended! More

We spent two nights at the Bandarawela hotel on mid-October 2011. We arrived to Bandarawela after spending four nights in two small family owned guesthouses (at Kendy and Ella) which were excellent. Comparing to those, the Bandarawela hotel was a bit of a disappointment. Its location is perfect, in the middle of town, walking distance from the large Sunday market.... More

Step back in time at the Bandarawela hotel. The hotel has its own 'greeter' dressed in traditional costume who loves having his photo taken. The rooms are very big with huge brass bedsteads and even a bell above the bed to ring in case you need anything (though I'm not sure anyone will still come). The bathroom in our room... More

Stepping into the Bandarawela Hotel is like stepping back in time......beautiful wall panelling, decor and gloriously large rooms take you back to the colonial days. Coupled with fantastic food (Asian and Western) in the dining room, and very helpful and attentive staff...this is one place I would definitely recommend - whether to stay or just for a meal in the...
