I would recommend the Moana Sands Beachfront Hotel over the Pacific Resort. It's in much more reasonably priced and in a patch of beach/ocean that has been named a "marine reserve" so it's very pristine, and there is lots of marine life. After exploring the many hotels and beaches in Rarotonga, we were so pleased we stayed at Moana Sands. It was peaceful, the staff were friendly, island bus stops at the front door, there is a cool restaurant on-site plus self-catering facilities provided...all this… right on the sand…on the best beach!!! more

This hotel was in a pretty good location and was right on the beach front, there was some good snorkelling straight off the beach. We stayed at the Moana Sands for 4 days in December 2008 and loved it. The location is exactly as described - beachfront, and the view from the room was perfect - a white sand beach, palm trees, - even sunsets!
