If you want to see the real Gambia, go to BSC! We were there in Januari for 4 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. That said, I admitt that a lot of the reviews I read about BSC are true, the negative ones as well. But a rating is a matter of perception, I guess. We enjoyed the scenery,... more

Mak Thomson and his staff really went out of their way to ensure the wishes of all who stayed were accommodated. My bird guide Ebrima found the much sort after Egyptian Plovers and Carmine Bee-eaters for me as well as over 250 other birds. Huts and tents are basic but fairly comfortable but "en suite" facilities could use some investment.... more

Having read some some terrible reviews about Bird Safari Camp on this website, I felt the need to give my opinion and redress the balance. Myself, wife and grown-up daughter stayed at the camp for a full week as part of a two week holiday organised by Hidden Gambia. Our trip up to BSC was for a mixture of birdwatching... more

I have just returned from a four night stay in the safari camp, am fifty nine and have a very bad hip. We traveled independently. Notwithstanding, the hotel staff were very considerate helping me on and off the boats to get to and from the camp and on a river trip where we saw chimps, red and green monkeys, hippos,... more

Having decided that I wanted to see rural Gambia as an independent traveller the question was how to achieve this? Having arranged to fly out with Thomas Cook (passengers packed in like sardines) and staying first at Bintang Bolong, I contacted Hidden Gambia who made the rest of the holiday happen. Mark who runs the business, is a very effective... more

I peruse Tripadvisor when planning holidays but have never produced a review, and so thought I'd better make a contribution. Being a constant user of the site I quite often find that the opinions of reviewers do not tally with my experiences. They often seem to say as much about the reviewer as they do about the faciliity. I allowed... more

We first became aware of Mark Thompson and his 'Hidden Gambia' at the British Bird Watching Fair at Rutland in 2006. At that time we saw the trip options he had to offer but put The Gambia on the back burner. On visiting the Gambia stand the following year we decided to book a holiday with him which we took... more

I was checking out our next holiday and noticed Hidden Gambia now have a direct link into Trip Advisor. A very brave and extremely honest approach. I thought I had better add my comments. We found Bird Safari Camp a haven of sanity and good fun. A massive difference from the hassle and difficulties people can experience at the coast.... more

My husband and I travelled to Bird Safari Camp in January, and were not really sure what to expect. We are not avid bird watchers, but were very keen to experience a side of Gambia away from the tourist areas, and also to see some hippos. We were certainly not expecting to have such a wonderful time, we could not... more

My sisters & stayed here in January 2008 for 3 days & 2 nights. It was a real find & a memorable part of our trip to The Gambia. Bird Safari Camp offers a unique holiday experience with a truly African flavour. Bird Safari Camp tucked away in a tranquil setting on the edge of the Gambia River at Janjangbureh... more
