I arrived in Alicante on my own, after spending some time with family in nearby Benidorm. The information said reception was 'open all hours', but when I got there late afternoon, is was closed. I had to ring an international number which was posted on the door, for the receptionist who lived nearby to come and let me in. After checking-in, I went out to get some food and came back in the evening. The keycard I was given didn't work, so I had to call the international number again, so the receptionist could return and validate my door entry fob properly! When I finally got into bed during the night, I realised I wasn't actually in the bedroom alone. I had been joined by bed-bugs, my first experience of meeting them. Yes, you guessed it? I had to call the receptionist, for a third time. After he returned, he upgraded me to a bug-free room at no extra cost - the least he could do, some might say. The morning came and I went down for breakfast, well, filter coffee which I decided to skip. My stay at the Hostal De Hell wasn't the best, but, it couldn't have been that bad as I stayed an extra night - although, I needed to for my travels. All in all, if there was someone on reception and no bugs it would have been a better stay - as, it actually is a smart/modern hostel. Another strange thing, I never saw one other guest though I heard them (I think!?)…

Very handy location for the old town, and suprisingly quiet considering the proximity of the bars etc. We were in an inside facing room so no view but the air-con kept the room at a reasonable temperature. The shower room was in need of some attention but otherwise the room was big and clean enough. The big plus points are the excellent self-service breakfast, and a good rooftop area.

I stayed here August for 2 nights and again in September for another night. Friendly enough staff, rooms simple but adequate and the only drawback was the shower controls with push button taps that you had to hold in with one hand while attempting to bathe. Really surprised by the Breakfast, Cornflakes, Toast, Croissants, Cheese, Ham + Coffee or Tea, all included in the price. The directions to get there from the airport could have been clearer – The bus stop you get off at is at the port, then you retrace your steps back to the first street on the right and pick up the hostal website directions from there. Overall I would say that this little hostal represents excellent value for money

We stayed one night here at the beginning of November. It was not very busy as it was off-season. The normal check-in times are until 8pm but we emailed the staff beforehand and asked whether we could come around 9pm. This was no problem and the receptionist welcomed us in a very friendly manner and even reparked her car for us so that we could park our car in front of the hostel. She also told us where to go out at night and gave us a city map. Our room was very basic with a double bed and sink as well as an ensuite bathroom with a shower. The room appeared clean but did not have any creative touch to it. The common room/ bar / breakfast area had charme and was very pleasant. The walls and seating areas were very decorative. In the morning the coffee was already cooked for us and orange juice, milk, bread and cereals were available. It was very well presented and tasted and well too. We thought that 35€ per double room were absolutely justified considering the great location of the hostel.…

We have to say that any problems with the area were outside the remit of the Hostel/Hotel. We had a double room that overlooked the street. It was clean, bright, had everything we needed. The staff were helpful, friendly, and reactive. When we mentioned mosquitoes they installed a plug in repellant which was great. We were in the centre of party land so as long as you are aware of that it shouldn't be a problem. The location was central to everything. Walking distance to the Ramblas, shops, port, beach and any amount of bars and restaurants. For the price we got more than what we paid for. We are seasoned travellers and my husband is blind and we found everything about the accommodation up to what we expected and more. I think the staff make the difference. There is internet, adequate breakfast, security, etc etc. The only issue with the area and not the hostel is the late night noise. The sound of the bars and people didn't phase us in the slightest it was the few nights that after the bars were shut some locals seemed it was funny to shout, and generally carry on. In other Spanish towns we stayed in the police would see to it that this was kept to a minimum. I never saw them. If anything perhaps the hostel owners could liaise with the local accommodation owners to see if something could be done. That is the only down side. Other than that we had a fab trip and we recommend Alicante as city to visit. You are spoilt for choice.…

We stayed here in the middle of july and there are a few issues that would make us not return! We stayed in one of the double rooms. First of all this is a Hostel not a Hotel! Noise: This is a very noisy hotel. i could hear everything that was going on in the lobby, corridor, stairway and outside the window. The double glazed door to the balcony must be the cheapest available because it stopped nothing. Likewise the Metal door into the room itself had a large gap underneath and also transmitted every noise into the room. Facilities: The room had nothing, no safe, no tv, no curtains, no proper blind, no hairdryer. It did have AirCon and free WiFi as major plusses Room: The hostel is basic and is basically a bed, a shower, and a toilet. Obviously not all in the same space though but they are attached and are at least private. The shower had one of my pet hates, a Shower curtain, and it wasn't clean at all. As mentionned above there is no curtains or proper blinds. This meant a lot of light made it into the room making it hard to sleep at night as lots of light from the square came in, and it also made it impossible to sleep late as it got light early. We booked a double room and sort of received. It was two single beds pushed together and they were possibly th worst beds i have ever slept in. They also aggravated my partners back issue making for very uncomfortable nights. At one point she considered sleeping on the floor. Breakfast: Basic but functional. Usual Continental breakfast, some fruit would have been nice. Location: The hostel was in a fantastic location. Close to the restaurant area, 2 minute walk. Close to the sea front, 5 minute walk. Close to the Beach,10 minute walk. Overall this would be more suited to young people rather than a couple.…

We took a city break in April 2011 over Good Friday. The location was perfect, close to a lot of restaurants, bars and attractions. Because the location is so central there is a lot of "nightlife" (noise) all night long. Bring earplugs if you plan on sleeping at night. Rooms were very basic but very clean. The staff were all extremely nice, super friendly & helpful. Coffee was great every morning. Wish they had real butter for the rolls. Their "picnic-bar" was very stylish & a nice place to hang out & relax after a long day of sightseeing. Would recommend to any young person looking for a place to stay over spring break. Maybe a little too loud at night for some travelers.

A group of 10 of us stayed here for 2 nights, spread over two 6 bed dorms. The room was fine, with it's own shower etc and the beds were comfortable enough. All we needed really! There's free WiFi which was excellent to have and the staff are friendly and helpful. The immediate area comes alive at around 11pm and is a real party district until around 4am! (at the weekends)
