Homeikan Ryokan was perfect, ask to stay at the Daimachi one, it has a beautiful pond. We were a little worried at first because this was a rushed trip, we decided to go 3 weeks before and we needed a hotel right away, when we got there it looks like a 3 star hotel which the typical japanese style living... more

On our trip to Japan, we had stayed in a budget hotel, a authentic samurai house and also in a grand hotel. But the thing we were looking for most was a stay at a Ryokan. We saw Homeikan as a typical Japanese ryokan and booked it for one night, before we left tokyo. We stayed at Morikawa annex, which is... more

We stayed for 5 days on our way from Ireland to New Zealand and we just loved it. Travelling with a 2 and 4 yr old is always 'exciting' and so we were pensive as we approached tokyo from the airport with little sleep.... we ended taking a taxi from the subway station and i have to say that our... more

I've used Trip Advisor as a "first port of call" for several vacations, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review, because I feel others should be warned of the experience we had. Please note that there seems to be about 3 Japanese-Styled accommodation places in the same Hongo, Bunkyo-Ku district, with "Homeikan" as part... more

We stayed in Homeikan Morikawa Bekkan for 3 nights and on the 2nd night we asked to be served with the traditional japanese dinner in our room. The room was fine, the biggest out of the 3 places we stayed in while we were in Japan. Everything was very old style indeed. Wood columns and beams everywhere. We had to... more

We stayed in the Daimachi room. Overall, the facilities are old and not necessarily dirty, but definitely not the "clean" you can expect from most Japanese places. The room is heated by an electric fire, something that was dangerous but unfortunately necessary because the room would otherwise be freezing. Furthermore, the silverware provided was cracked and also slightly dirty. Unlike... more

Homeikan has three buldings in the area. These are old japanese style woodbuildings. The rooms are with tatami-mats and a low table, but no other furniture. In the evening the staff puts a futon in the room to sleep on. The buildings are really really beautiful. The gardens as well. Toilets and baths are shared. That works pretty well. However... more

My husband, son, and I stayed at two of Homeikan's houses in July 2008. First, we stayed at Daimachi Bekkan for three days, then we stayed at Honkan for one day because Daimachi Bekkan was closed for inspection. Homeikan was one of four places we stayed during our trip to Japan, and it was the highlight of the trip! The... more

This ryokan was an excellent value and a wonderful place to stay! We were in one of the annexes, and although the main building looked like it was older with much better atmosphere, it was still well worth it! The room and building was clean and basic, and served our needs well. I liked the quiet residential neighborhood it was... more

I thouroughly recommend the Homeiken as it is true experience of Japan with tatame mats, robes, slippers, green tea & the garden is amazing to view. Located in a quiet neighbourhood the homeiken is situated close to the subway, lots of restaurants with many styles of food. We tried our Japanese but we were welcomed with English (though we used... more
