This is a good place to get away the noisy Tokyo. Napping in a beautiful street and there are lots of green trees, the Ryokan is itself beautiful and comfortable. The location is convenient (closed to 2 train stations), and some shops, restaurants nearby. The room décor is simply, small, but the bath room is tiny, clean, in Japanese type.... More

We stayed at this ryokan as our first overnight stay in Japan. It was a great introduction to a very relaxed, peaceful location as we explored Tokyo. It was very close to Chidoricho station which brought us directly into Tokyo each day. We were also close to several shops, restaurants, fast food stops and nice suburban areas for walking. We... Travelers to Japan from the U.S. or Europe often expect the same amenities they are used to at western-style hotels, plus anything "Japanese" on top of it. Well, it doesn't work that way. Mid November 2011, I went to visit Japan, after a 35-year hiatus, and wanted to stay at a ryokan (Japanese-style inn) in the Tôkyô area. None were... More

We stayed at Kangetsu in Nov 2011 and it was one of the best ryokans to stay in around Tokyo. It is nice to stay in a more suburban area, with fantastic shops nearby and Chidori-cho station right on the doorstep. Pay a little bit more and stay in the Japanese style room in the newly built Annex building, it... More

I stayed at this ryokan last December with my mother, brother and sister in law. We had a fun 5 days holiday in Tokyo. We booked 2 connecting twin room with private bathroom. We really enjoyed the common room with massaged chair, tv and free internet after our tiring 1 day outing. I think the management should add up more... More

Kangetsu had a beautiful Japanese garden exterior and very friendly helpful staff. Unfortunately, the room and bathroom were quite small and also.....there were bedbugs! I had never encountered bedbugs before, but my husband identified and killed 5 or 6 of them. He was bitten many times all over his body and was itchy for the rest of the trip, but... More

This is not a very traditional Ryokan, but it's a cheap way to have a taste of real Japanese ryokan. This ryokan has western and japanese rooms, also with private bathroom. Japanese rooms are very little but essentials, with two tatami and a furniture for tv. Bathroom is little but with everything you need. Ryokan has three onsen, japanese hot... More

It is a bit less than 40 minutes to Shibuya, but iyou can walk around in the next train stations villages, worth to discover where and how majority of Japanease lives, very quiet... More

The Kangetsu is one of the few Tokyo area low-priced ryokans (not to be compared with the high-priced ryokans at the other end of the lodging spectrum) with character, mostly due to its garden and older building. It also stands out by its location in a nice low-rise middle class residential area, not a lower rent suburb with large apartment... More

We stayed in this ryokan because we felt the ryokan would give us a good feel for traditional accommodation in Japan based on their website. We weren't disappointed. Location seems out of town, but its actually very close to the train station and it costs 120Y for a trip back to town, so we felt it was worth the trip.... More
