The beds are literally boxes, which you can close to have some privacy. It was quite interesting approach to dorms and very comfortable I would say. Though not recommended for claustrophobic people. The only minus points are that there was only one shower and one shower on each floor (e.g. shared with more than 20 people, it can take a... more

We stayed there 2 nights. Me and my friend, we had a private double room. The bathroom was shared with other 3 rooms - anyway, it was very clean as the staff was checking it very often. Room was quiet small but efficient and location is excellent (even though we had a small difficulties finding the hostel for the first... more

All I can say is that Khaosan Tokyo Annex is NOT clean at all. I've switched bed three times during my four daysstay, and I found bed bugs, mosquitos and who knows what else must have been there. (Don't want to think about it... ) Not worth it. I stayed at the Dorm first time, and I actually asked them... more

I've been in several locations (Hostels, Inns, Hotels, Ryokans ...) all over Japan, from Okinawa to Tokyo and until now all ranged from 'acceptable' to 'very good'. But that was before Khaosan. I booked one dorm room for 8 people (we were 6 people) and especially paid attention that we get one room together. I used the booking from the... more

The room is quite small but clean. The staffs are helpful. If you plan to stay for long, you can stay for free (living room) by working with them for 2-3 hrs a day. (i saw the advertisement in the bathroom) Plus many internet access for free (around 8 computers) The one problem is quite far from subway station. But... more

The hostel is clean, and functional. If that's all you want, then it does the job. Things to bear in mind: - Rooms are small, and sound proofing is poor - The walls are plastered with rules and regulations which makes it hard to relax - The hostel charge a significant amount to sit in the common area after checkout.... more

My husband and I had a double room though we may as well have been in a dorm - the walls are so thin that we could audibly hear our neighbors' conversations. The room itself was very small with the only outlet at the ceiling close to an unsafe looking air-conditioning unit. You have two choices for shared bathrooms -... more

We arrived to Khaosan Original to be told we were staying at Smile to be told we were in the annex around the corner. First we were left to go upstairs to the room and put the code in the door. Which didn't work for about 5 minutes. Once we cracked the code we thought the problem would be solved... more

Asakusa is a nice place to stay and the price of Khaoshan is certainly not high. You get what you paid for though. First I thought they had really nasty mosquitoes in Japan. Even though I'm used to traveling all over Southeast Asia. The bites stayed much longer though and seemed to have a certain grouping. After some reasearch (after... more
