Ueno is a great place to stay regarding airport, attractions, and getting around. It's not the cleanest and a bit old, but has wi-fi Internet and is the closest to Ueno station. There's a 24 convenience store just 15 meters away. Good value for location.

Had a good stay at this hostel/ryokan. It is not the cleanest or high class place but the location and value are great. Don't expect luxury for the price you pay. Very close to the JR Ueno station (the JR loop stops at most of the major touristy spots) and the Ueno Keisei station (train direct to Narita airport). Very cute, little ryokan. I always start and end my Tokyo visits here, because it is very close to the Keisei Ueno station wich is convenient when arriving at Narita. I also enjoy the neighbourhood a lot, especially Ueno park and Ameyokocho. Staff is very kind and helpful. Bring your dictionary!

“Stayed at hotel Komatsu again. A good value for the price.”

I get the chance to visit Tokyo a couple times a year only. It's the best value for the price that I could find and the location works really well being so close to Ueno station. It seems rather old but I think that makes it an interesting place to stay.

This hotel was the worst we have ever stayed in. For a start they appeared to have lost our booking. this was made all the more complicated because they did not speak any english. Stayed in hotel Komatsu for one week in January and one week in February. A great place only a few minutes walk to ueno station for airport connections, the metro and JR lines.
