Stayed here on 24-25 July for the Sumida River Fireworks, biggest fireworks in Japan, before moving on to Shinjuku. Location: Fantastic!!! 10-15min walk to either Asakusa or Ueno Sations. The small lane the ryokan is on is lined with other hotels and restuarants. Turn to the left at main street and a wide range of great affordable food (look at... more

If you like comfort, a neat place and clean bed: don't go to Taito Ryokan. But if you don't expect to much comfort and don't mind run down places but do like typical and a bit old fahioned places, you'll have a great time at Taito. It's well located, with friendly and helpful english speaking staff. more

While at Taito over the course of 5 days, I stayed in 3 different rooms, so I know that each room is different. In general, they are all very small rooms. Some have tatami mats, while others are hardwood. We thought the bed (one mat) was uncomfortable with the tatami mat and it was worse with the hardwood floor. We... more

My sister and I stayed 3 nights there. We wanted a cheap place to save some money. First I'll go through the bad things. It is noisy. Lots of street noise and walls are thin so you can hear all the other guests talking when they are in their rooms. Beds were not comfortable and I didn't have the best... more

Having spent 3 nights in the Taito Ryokan in Asakusa at the end of July 08, I feel the need to warn anyone that wishes to stay here in the future. Taito Ryokan is very cheap but I personally would spend a few more yen if you want to get a good night's sleep. Taito is VERY noisy and the... more

Taito Ryokan was by far the most disgusting place I have ever stayed in. On our first night, we saw a roach that was the size of a gerbil (please see my attached pictures) and when we told the proprietor, he ran around chasing it with bug spray but didn't seem too bothered by the fact that he didn't catch... more

This was my first experience of Japan when I went to work there last year and I have good memories of it. The owner was helpful, the rooms were basic (but what do you expect for somewhere so cheap), and I met many other people there from all over the world whilst sitting in the common room. If you want... more

Staying in the Taito Ryokan was one of the highlights of my 10 days in Tokyo. It is important to know that this is not a "traditional" inn, but the house gives you a feel for older Japanese homes with its tatami mat floors and traditional Japanese style futons that you sleep on. This is similar to a hostel but... more

This place was NOT what we were expecting. The rooms were tiny and dirty, and the bedding was just a bunch of thin blankets and flat pillows thrown together and stowed in the corner of the room, on the floor. Other than the bedding, there was no other furnishings in the room at ALL. The outlets did not work and... more
