My partner and I had a great time at Vallum Lodge. The owners and staff were very kind and had a great local knowledge that made our weekend very relaxing and pain free.

The rooms are excellent; very clean, cosy and modern. Minibar is well stocked and not overpriced! Breakfast was delicious and the lounge is great for relaxing and enjoying the view while you decide where to go, has lots of books and some local literature. There's enough parking for all of the guests.

The local area is great for backpackers and sightseeing, lots of roman forts etc still being excavated and great museums to match. Look for Vindolanda. The hotel will make a packed lunch too if you're going walking or cycling.

Although the hotel is situated next to a main road "Military Road", there's very few cars during the day and almost none at night. 2 minute walk from the local Inn which serves decent food and has a great atmosphere, and a 5 minute drive from the Milecastle Inn... more
