I stayed at this charming hotel with a group as part of our July 2009 cycling trips to Rioja. I can highly recommend it as a base from which to explore the region. The owner/manager was incredibly helpful and patiently arranged extra meals, bike storage, and even offered to defer payment as one of my credit cards unexpectedly froze (it... more

This small inn was delightful. We got to know the staff and chef very well. We felt at home, and actually felt as though we had a truly unique experience. We all conversed in Spanish, French and English. What a great Basque Country experience - we will never forget it. Judy and Emily more

We, on the whole enjoyed our stay here. Javier is the perfect host and happily arranged bodegas tours for us in english. The hotel is showing signs of wear, but is very clean and is still welcoming. We stayed in the Tower room and the views were fantastic. Dinner was good but expensive, we only ate there one night and... more

The Castillo El Collado is a perfect choice for exploring the beautiful region of La Rijocha. The hotel is set within the old defensive walls of the charming town of Laguardia and is very authentic. The little touches of originality are what make the physical aspect of the hotel so pleasing. Look out for the front desk, made from an... more

This is a quiet, elegant hotel with character within the town of Laguardia. We stayed in the Dona Blanca room, a beautifully furnished room with lovely views over the countryside, old Valencian tiles in the bathroom, marquetry ceiling. We had breakfast at the hotel 12 euros which was cold meats, fruit, fresh baked pastries, bread and jam etc. Climb the... more

We visited Castillo El Collado for three nights as part of our honeymoon trip to Spain. Both the villiage of Laguardia and El Castillo charmed us totally and were wonderfully romantic. The hotel is beautifully appointed with every modern convernience, yet still carries a historical feel. The owner, Javier and his assistant Kate very both very charming, helpful and kind... more

If you are interested in visiting the Rioja Alavesa, this is the place to stay. The hotel is charming and the rooms are huge and very unique. Javier - the hotel owner and the guy who does everything around the place, is extremely nice, pleasant and honest. This is NOT the case in some other hotels in the area (e.g.... more

Officially, I believe that this is a 2 star hotel, but I have never seen better service in my life. Three weeks before our wedding in Laguardia, we were left without a venue. We immediately thought of The Castillo, as we had stayed there during the planning process, and had had a wonderful experience. Javier stepped up to bat immediately,... more

This little gem is absolutely recommendable for those who are looking for a privately owned guesthouse away from the big crowds. Javier is omnipresent, friendly and willing to assist you with any inquiry you have. Our room was of a good size, equipped with antique furniture. For the bathroom they even used original antique tiles. You feel like being guest... more

This place is incredibly charming, both the hotel and the town of Laguardia. The proprietor, Javier, is most accomodating, we had the Fabula room, breathtaking views of the valley and mountains. We did have dinner there, it was excellent. We were served the most incredible boutique Cava that Javier recommended. There were no negatives. more
